1.17.2 Preliminary Itemization Changelog

Post by Dragunovi » Thu May 02, 2024 12:21 am

Greetings! Here's the preliminary itemization changelog detailing all item related additions and changes coming in Patch 1.17.2: Tower of Karazhan.

This list will be updated as more changes are done or revised, so keep in mind that these changes are subject to change. Check back here often so you don't miss anything!

Summary:
  • We've taken a second look at all of the Gilneas City loot and increased the power of most gear to make the dungeon worth running even without quests.
  • We've turned the dial back slightly on most of the Moroes drops.
  • Made most of the underperforming caster staves in tiers below Naxxramas more worthwhile to use.
  • Adjusted quite a few dungeon drops, especially changing Uncommon items in dungeons at or above level 40 to be Rare quality and buffed accordingly.
  • Buffed reputation rewards for Warsong Gulch and Arathi Basin, making the grind much more worthwhile.
  • Buffed Atiesh for Priest to have spellpower equal to Warlock and Mage, and Atiesh for Druid to have more feral attack power, changed the aura granted to be useful for all roles and added spellpower similiar to the Priest version.
Stat Adjustments:
  • Meditation's stat budget has seen a lookover. In simple terms: Some items should see a small nerf while some items should see an overall buff from this change. If a Meditation item is not listed in the stat specific changelog section below then the item is unchanged.
  • Resillience is seeing a complete rework. Instead of reducing your chance to be critically struck, it will instead reduce the damage of critical strikes and damage over time effects on you, making it much more oriented for PvP combat, as it was mostly utilized by PvE tanks to get rid of critical strikes from bosses.

The conversion rate is: 1% reduced chance to get critically struck is turned into 3% reduced damage from critical strikes and damage over time effects. To avoid any confusion, anything in the changelog that lists resillience as 3% is for the new version of the stat, equal to 1% of the old version.

Please keep in mind that this change will go live alongside other class centric changes such as the addition of the Alternative Tier Sets and the second batch of Class Changes, don't look at this in a vacuum.
Item Adjustments
  • Staff of Dominance: Intellect reduced from 37 to 34, Spellpower increased from 40 to 53.
  • Staff of the Qiraji Prophets: Intellect reduced from 26 to 22, Spellpower increased from 56 to 72.
  • Shadow Wing Focus Staff: Intellect reduced from 40 to 32, Spellpower increased from 56 to 72, Added 1% Spell Hit.
  • Band of Servitude: Spellpower increased from 23 to 27, Stamina reduced from 8 to 5, Intellect reduced from 9 to 5.
  • Ring of the Academy: Spellpower reduced from 16 to 12.
  • Visor of Command: The strength aura's range has been increased from 20 to 35 yards, and no longer gets overriden by other strength buffs.
  • Jadestone Protector: Replaced 1% Resillience with 1% Block. Increased Defense from 8 to 9.
  • Gold Ore: Now uses the proper Gold Ore icon instead of reusing the Copper Ore icon.
  • Wing of the Time-Lord: Haste reduced from 2% to 1%.
  • Bonereaver's Edge: Procs per minute returned to original Vanilla value, reducing it from 3 to 2.
  • Biznicks 247x128 Accurascope: Changed enchant text from "+3% Hit" to "Scope (+3% Ranged Hit)". This is only a description update to make it clear that this enchant only increases ranged hit chance, functionality remains unchanged from Vanilla.
  • New Item Set: Possessions of the Lost. Perhaps the long dead should be disturbed after all.
  • Eye of Diminution: Spell critical chance increased from 2% to 3%.
  • Atiesh (Priest): Spellpower increased from 120 to 150 to be on par with the other full spellpower versions.
  • Atiesh (Druid): Class special aura changed from 11 MP5 to 2% Haste. Feral Attack Power increased from 420 to 600. Now also grants 150 Spellpower similiar to the Priest version.
  • Spinal Reaper: Mana granted increased from 150 to 300.
  • Warmth of Forgiveness: Increased mana granted on use from 500 to 700.
  • Libram of Divinity/Totem of Sustaining and Libram of Light/Totem of Life: Healing reduced from 53 to 28 for the former two and healing reduced from 83/80 to 41/40.

This change was done because the effect implies that this effect functions like healing power obeying coefficients, while these effects actually functioned as flat healing increase, after this these relics should increase healing by approximately the original intended amount displayed on the items. In short terms, this made these items be slightly more than double in power, equalling around 123 healing power for the rare relics and around 189 healing power for the epic ones. To prevent further confusion around these items we've removed the "up to" text from these items to fully represent they are flat healing increases.

  • Ring of Forlorn Spirits: Removed 7 Spirit, reduced Meditation from 5% to 4%.

I think you guys should revisit Warmth of Forgiveness. It’s just an unwanted healing trinket from 4 hm. Otherwise okayish changes.

Before making too many more white dungeon items into uncommon items (the bow from Uldaman stands out and there are some that were changed ages ago on the server) remember that we have Vagrant challenge now. Those white dungeon items are highly desirable if doing Vagrant and feel like they have a purpose now that such a challenge exists.

Overall I'm super hype for these changes!! Awesome work!

Very cool changes.

For the WSG rep rewards I would argue you could buff them a bit more by adding a set bonus.

For example looking at plate r12 pants have 743 armor and one more crit but 11 less str and 2 less sta.

If you then consider half of the 2 item set bonus it works out to be r12 plate pants vrs wsg (both ilevel 71)

93 more armor
8 more sta
11 less str
1 more crit

Which is a decent amount better for the same item level.

Again zero complaints I very much appreciate changes, simply suggesting a set bonus for WSG 2 piece so it's on par with items of the same level.

The set bonus could be defensive as well as to not make it PvE oriented

Maybe + all resists or more armor or even like something wsg themed like you heal 1k if you kill efc lol

why nerf servitude? There is already an 18 dmg 1% crit ring(dragonslayer), along with like 5 18 dmg rings(songstone/eye of org, sandswept ring, infinite possibilties..

I have to agree, servitude serves as an important piece of gearing for casters who don't want extra stats like haste or crit. (Namely shadowpriests, dot warlocks and healers who haven't found better rings yet)
At the itemlvl its designed for you generally don't see people being upset about getting it. Can we please instead use that statline for Ring of the Desert Winds? That one is actual garbage

Indeed! I just hit Exalted with Defilers and was sickened by how awful some of these 'epic' rewards were.
The Cloak for example had pathetically low stats. +5 Agility lolwut
Paladin is broken in PVP.
Frost Mage is broken in PVP/PVE.
Warrior is awful in PVP.
Feral Druid is mediocre in PVP.
Enhancement Shaman is fine. Stop begging for goofy custom abilities.

Hey,
after a quick glare over the possible changes I noticed an imbalance with the following items (some maybe allready on the live server.):

"Glowing Eye of Mordresh: Removed Intellect, Added 5% Meditation." vs. https://database.turtle-wow.org/?item=60790 +6 spirit for 24 item level

https://database.turtle-wow.org/?item=2043 vs. https://database.turtle-wow.org/?item=60798 +9 spirit for 28 item level

https://database.turtle-wow.org/?item=80830 vs. https://database.turtle-wow.org/?item=60809 +9 spirit for 29 item level

aswell as an suggestion to make raremobs have a range in their spawntime and/or make all the items BOP, because as soon as an item is valuable one player will kill it, let an addon read the spawntime from the server and mostlikely have a monopoly of that item for a long time. I think that happend to a lot of items from raremobs in the past.

Thanks for reading my thoughts on the subject and excuse potential erros, english is not my native language.

Thanks for letting every tank farm BR exalted to nerf it after some time.
Give us more defense then - you cant gear with 440 defense and expect to do some threat.

Hi, really liking the idea to update some of the leveling dungeon loot, makes it feel more rewarding to run them!

However, I don't understand why you're taking away some vampirism from the Greymane armour. I felt it added some nice personality to the set.
Also: Greymane Gauntlets: Removed 1% Vampirism, Added 11 Agility, Added 9 Spirit
Do we really need SPIRIT on it?

Indeed! I just hit Exalted with Defilers and was sickened by how awful some of these 'epic' rewards were.
The Cloak for example had pathetically low stats. +5 Agility lolwut
Agreed, hope they buff the cloak as well.

Also interesting if there will be any changes in the future to the pvp sets as well or if the resilience stuff will mostly come from the blood ring gear. I imagine the powerspike will be even more noticeable for pvp vs pve gear when future raids will be released with new items. Think resilience is a good way to go though to combat some of that, same way it works in retail. Also would not make pve people forced to pvp and vice versa as has been done with BR already.

If rated arenas were ever to become a thing it could open up even more expanded BR gear as well then just getting exalted with them.

considern keeping both old resillience "-1% change to get critically struck" on some items and the new resillience around on pvp items. tanks are already cursing you dragunovi

You're making druid Atiesh extremely desirable for any druid for PvP.
This buff pushes it way ahead of any other spec specific weapon, but it's all in one! Basically BiS caster weapon, BiS healer weapon and BiS feral weapon all in one at all times.

I am glad they making it after 20 years of being way subpar compared to other caster variants.

As it rightfully should be as a Legendary Item. I think, I am the only druid in the server who have it or maximum 3 more but I do not think many more. We don't know yet about new pvp and arena items. There might be better weapons for PVP than a legendary.

Mostly good changes, but I really have to question the point of Resilience now. It was put almost exclusively on gear that drops from PvE, and it gave a massive PvE benefit and a nice way to itemize. Now, all the grind that people put in is now completely invalidated, and it's complete garbage. What even is the point in this? Is it not possible to keep Resillience as it is, and make an ACTUAL PvP stat instead?

First post i make on a twow Forum.
I think the Resillience change is not a good idea. The defcap to be crit immune is unreasonable high and this stat did not only help warris to reach it, it made becoming crit immune as pala or druid possible in the first place.
So even if its meant to be a PvP stat it fixed that issue.
And for PvP youll always wear the high lvl items from raids if you can, noone will wear the PvP gear if they have acces to naxx or AQ40.
pls reconsider

Maybe they could keep Resillience the same and change pvp gear to have the new stat ?

Also just a simple damage reduction by X percent by other players only would be amazing since it's pvp only stat and main issue with gear power creep is the instant deletion of others.

As a feral main, Atiesh being buffed as good as it's been is incredibly huge (even if I'll never have it lol) because of how bad the situation is with MCP being permanent bis.
Elmhoof - 60 Feral, between tanking/dps (Main)
Anbone 34 Shadow Priest (Planned secondary main)
Manypunchman - 10 Naked Troll Boxer (Hardcore)

I'm back! More or less...

I don't know. It would be hard to beat 600 AP. Maybe something with slightly less AP but equally ludicrous and a "chance on equip" proc (lord knows weapons like that are few and far between).

But overall I like the changes. Since we are talking itemisation I would like to suggest a next step, further down the line:

Epic wepaon quests for all classes.

Currently, only 2 classes have an epic weapon quest: hunter and priest.

The shaman does have an epic item quest, but the reward is underwhelming to say the least (probably also because it is much easier to do compared to the other ones).

I know it would be a lot of work, but getting similar epic quest chains from dropable items for each class would be very cool.

Nice work!
Just for curiosity, would these change be applied to newly looted items only or to the existing items as well?

  • Spinal Reaper: Mana granted increased from 150 to 300.
Hidden Paladin buff? Why further buffing already overpowered item?
The devil is in the detail.

I have it on warrior and it's 20 rage. 150 mana is way less than 20 rage

Also shamans use it too

Hey,
after a quick glare over the possible changes I noticed an imbalance with the following items (some maybe allready on the live server.):

"Glowing Eye of Mordresh: Removed Intellect, Added 5% Meditation." vs. https://database.turtle-wow.org/?item=60790 +6 spirit for 24 item level

https://database.turtle-wow.org/?item=2043 vs. https://database.turtle-wow.org/?item=60798 +9 spirit for 28 item level

https://database.turtle-wow.org/?item=80830 vs. https://database.turtle-wow.org/?item=60809 +9 spirit for 29 item level

aswell as an suggestion to make raremobs have a range in their spawntime and/or make all the items BOP, because as soon as an item is valuable one player will kill it, let an addon read the spawntime from the server and mostlikely have a monopoly of that item for a long time. I think that happend to a lot of items from raremobs in the past.

Thanks for reading my thoughts on the subject and excuse potential erros, english is not my native language.
Valid concern, we'll take a second look at the stat budget of the Meditation stat and do changes as needed.

Also valid, we might look into another way of buffing it, possibly more raw spellpower.

Why remove vampirism items from greymane items and other gilneas items?
Might consider reverting a few as you're right in the fact that vampirism is part of the set's identity.

Also applies to existing items.

As for the numerous Resillience comments, you have to remember that these changes should not be looked at in a vacuum, these changes are happening in the same patch as Class Changes 2 and Alternative Specialization Sets which includes sets for Protection Paladins and Feral Druids, so we believed this would be this best patch to go along with this change to make it a proper PvP stat instead of a stat tank specializations have to rely on.
Sometimes makes items, feel free to query on Discord for questions!

I understand the reasoning behind the resilience change, but then at least make it easier to get to 440 defense on tanks by not having to focus on hit chance so much if you're not a human/orc by introducing +5 sword/mace/axe/dagger skill books like the bow one you added in Hyjal. Because right now you need to be almost complete T3 geared in order to be uncrittable and be able to keep threat at the same time.

You must be cooking some really incredible class changes then. Please dont forget warrior tanks. While it is possible to reach defense cap, you cant keep up the threat with said gear.

Resilience was a nice way to gear and it forced you to participate in other game modes too. Even in tbc druid tanks used some items with resilience to be critimmun.
Please reconsider this change, maybe combine the stat as you mentioned with the reduction of beeing critically hitchance.
