Best and optimal gear for 10-19 twinks

Post by Xudo » Mon Oct 31, 2022 5:02 pm

Twinking (creating chars of 19, 29, 39, 49 levels for battlegrounds and WPVP) has several advantages which are not as obvious as others:
  • You can make a twink all by yourself, there's no need to raid with 39 more people.
  • No pressure - you're not chasing high-rank rewards anyway.
  • You learn to use your core abilities to the max, since many others are unavailable at low levels.
  • Twinks can be made in a couple of weeks - probably less than it will take to make it to level 60 and definitely less than it'd take to gear it.
  • You can play warsong and get reputation till exalted. Alterac Valley is not available utill 51.
  • Twinks does count in standing calculation. The more players are in standing, the easier to get top ranks for other players.
If you like relaxed approach to the game, twinking is a good way to do so.

Twow has a lot of features to comfortably make twinks:
  • You can stop xp gain for free. Just log in to character. Press right click on your portrait and Click on "Experience:Enabled" button. Or type ".xp off" in chat. It will allow you to stop at 19 (or any other suitable level) and get best experience from world pvp in Redridge or Stonetalon mountains.
  • You can queue to battlegrounds anywhere in the world. Go gathering ores for your grenades or fish and stay in queue.
  • Twow is old and stable server. There are many enchanters with rare recipes.
  • AH prices on on Twow are LOW. People sell things with minimal margin.
  • Twow is PvE server. It means you can go fishing in Stranglethorn Vale without risk of being ganked. Don't take Warmode Glyph. You don't need xp.
  • Twinking community is small enough. It is very common that there is 1 or 2 full geared in BiS twinks in each team. Sometimes there is a lot of BiS people, but it is quite rare now. You don't need BiS in every slot to be useful in battleground.
I geared my 19 level warrior without help of level 60 character. I needed help of high level only once - to complete SFK quests. I don't have all BiS, but it is matter of time and patience.
AH, crafting, PvE and even PvP can help you get geared. With suboptimal items and suboptimal enchants you still can be useful and competitive to others.
1k health is a good breakpoint for 19 twinks. If you have less, then you need more gear with stamina. All other attributes are secondary if you don't have minimum health.

Items per slot
I will list best in slot and suboptimal items here. Start with suboptimal items, stay online and participate in battlegrounds, dungeons and farm your gold. Eventually you'll get best in slots.
Keep in mind, that most power you get from enchants. Your bracer might give you 6 stamina, but there is +9 stamina enchant. Same for all other slots.
Thats why difference between bracers with 6 stamina and with 5 stamina. It is the difference between 15 stamina and 14, which is not that radical.
Do echant suboptimal items with cheap enchants. You'll need them for long time.

Check AH. Some items, which require level 18 or level 19 can give good stats. I won't list them here, but their stats could be quite good.

Be careful when you choose quest rewards. Some quests provide a choice between several good items. Make a plan before you do the quests.
Some quests will be completed while levelling, but the best rewards are from "red" quests (+5 levels and more). You're guaranteed to get the reward, so if you're paying someone to carry you through, you won't have to pay a second time. All of these can be easily completed by level 40 chars, so you can help them to get their 60% mounts :-)

Remember that warriors and paladins can wear mail, leather, and cloth. Druids, rogues, hunters, shamans can wear both cloth and leather. You probably won't be able to gear a warrior only in mail armor.

You're missing a decent number of things on here:

As Elisleris said, Alliance has three solid neck choices before WSG rep necks from the Hawk's Vigil questline
https://database.turtle-wow.org/?quest=55225
Turtlescale Shoulderguards are better than talbar vs melee for warriors and arguably for paladins
https://database.turtle-wow.org/?item=80710
Elisleris also pointed out BiS wrists for horde leather users
https://database.turtle-wow.org/?item=60379
Bracers of Wild Growth for druids/shamans/healadins
https://database.turtle-wow.org/?item=80711
Jutebraid gloves for horde, best used by shamans
https://database.turtle-wow.org/?item=10654
Sanguine Sandals green BoE cloth shoes
https://database.turtle-wow.org/?item=14374
Nat Pagle's Extreme Anglig' Boots BoP cloth shoes
https://database.turtle-wow.org/?item=19969
Redbeard Crest BoE blue shield
https://database.turtle-wow.org/?item=12997

Considering this is only about PvP, which do you think are the best and worst classes for each level? I guess the most unbalanced one would be 19.

I don't really know about each level. I never twinked 20-29 and there is few twinks in 30-39. There are a lot of regular players.
If you want best option for twinking 19, then go hunter.
Though, I seen twinks of different classes and each class could bring something on the table. If you are interested, I'll write an article about it someday.

Twinking at 19 is weird when it comes to classes. The best solo classes, or those that can run through a bg on their own with the least trouble, are hunters and rogues. After that, paladins. The rest all fall about together in capabilities to solo a bg.

When you're in a group, however, the dynamics change entirely. Healers duoing with a dps (rogue, hunter, warrior, shamans to some extent) are prized, especially priests and druids since their survivability and HoTs are more valuable than paladin/shaman heals. Warlocks and mages fall into a non-PvE role of CC machines, with mages clearly outpacing any other class in the bracket for their ability to lock down multiple targets at once. The same can be done with a warrior, but less effectively since they're slows instead of roots and they need melee range.

Shamans can do any role and are the real generalists of the bracket, but they aren't as effective at any one role over at least one other class. They can't CC as hard as a mage, they can't dps as hard as a rogue, they can't flag carry as well as a paladin, and they can't heal as well as a druid or a priest, but none of those classes can do all of those roles while a shaman can.

Warlocks are probably the worst overall. They can deal moderate damage through DoTs but can be hard countered by a single consume and straight-up can't kill an undead dps unless there's a severe gear or skill gap. Their advantage is with warlock sacrifice they're fairly tanky for a caster and are essentially a hunter who traded some dps for hard CC instead of soft CC.

As an aside, when you hit premades the game is something else as well.

Typical comps involve one flag carrier, almost always a druid or a paladin for their beef and ability to get out of CC, 3 supports for the FC, usually a mix of priests and mages for their constant CC and on-the-run healing, and either a dps on defense, usually a warrior or hunter, or all the rest on offense with at least one healer and one person to dispel/purge.

For offense rogues are best for grabbing back flags and hunters work well for ranged dps since they have an easy time peeling off defenders with wingclip and conc shot. Warriors do well here as well with their gap closer, and warlocks shine with DoTs on the whole defensive team, draining healer mana on attrition fights, and pets on enemy healers to provide spell pushback. Shamans are useful for purge but don't do as well as they would on defense as earthbind is really not useful for chasing.

I would encourage you not to at this time. There's a lot left for you to learn before you're able to write something very useful. The item list that started this threat itself shows a real lack of knowledge on the bracket especially as it doesn't dip into the real meat of the items in the bracket: consumes.

I'm not good enough to write one, either, but I also know I'm not good enough. If you're really interested, there's a couple of former twinks on retail named Anarcan and Cirran. They were on Classic for a while and were often considered the top of the bracket across battlegroups back in vanilla, tbc, and what little of wrath was available to 19s.

Here's a real guide written by one of the OG legends of the bracket:

Thank you for your input. I have very specific goal and writing things on a forum is supposed to reach this goal. So I keep in mind your argument but keep doing that I intended to do.

Thank you for the link to the guide. Though downside of that guide is that it poorly describes what exactly you should do with chosen talents.

For example I don't see there that Priests and Shamans have magic dispel. And that you can dispel Furbolg medicine pouch, Arena grand master shield, Blessing of freedom, Hunters mark.
Other example is that warriors have disarm and it is super annoying. That taunt can be used on pets. That Hibernate and Scare beasts can be used on Druids in bear form.

I'd argue talents described at the guide you posted.
Heroic strike for warrior almost never used in battlegrounds. it just add 32 damage on top of your regular attack.
It is much better to spend that rage on something else. For example another hamstring, it can give you additional proc of your weapon enchant. Thats why I'd choose 5 talents in Deflection. Because improved rend is totally useless.

For shaman, I would not pick Ancestral Knowledge. Imagine a shaman with 1000 mana. +3% means +30 mana. It is not enough even for single healing wave. I'd pick 3 points of improved healing wave in build with Earth Grasp.
I also not sure if any shaman damaging spell ever reach 100 damage to get benefit from +5% of damage. You'd get around +1 or +2 damage in total. So I'd put talents to Convection instead.

For paladin I'd pick Precision instead of Toughness. My warrior with shield have ~1400 armor now. It is 41.3% reduction. +6% of armor give at best +2% physical damage reduction. But you there is a lot of different damage types on battlegrounds. Especially when you meet shaman.

The trick is your goal isn't yet reachable, if that goal is to give a thorough and complete guide to twinking. The item list you have posted is still incomplete and hasn't been edited despite the number of posted details for items to pick up and many of your alternatives are just plain bad and will lead people the wrong way when multiple useful and cheap items in many slots are just better. If this trend carries over into the rest of your thoughts on the bracket, it will actively impede people from meeting your goal which, I can only assume, is to give people a starting point towards becoming a 10-19 pvp beast. They'll get rolled, and might already be, given the state of some of these twinks we're seeing currently.

The guide is a "Gearing" guide, it's not supposed to tell you how to use your spells. Besides, everyone knows this stuff, it's common knowledge in any pvp environment and is expected, but if you're only playing for new players you can try including it in your guide. These players don't need that stuff because they know what they're doing.

Your talent notes are, honestly and unfortunately, bad:
Take your warrior suggestion as an example. You are using heroic strike in bgs for the burst, not the overall dps. It's not the only thing you're using rage on, of course, and other things like hamstring take priority, but it's not seldom-used. It's common, and dropping the rage cost makes it easier to utilize. No one mentioned imp rend, because it is useless. That said, if you'd prioritize defense over offence in talents, that's totally fine and up to you. 5/5 deflection isn't bad, but not understanding something as fundamental as heroic strike burst is not a good place to start.

Shamans have more than 1000 mana in this bracket. Hell, my mage has 1848 with zero buffs and isn't even BiS yet. But beyond that, healing wave is barely used in bgs because a healer standing still is a healer covered in pets, rogues, or warriors, and will be destroyed. It's why everyone who's smart rocks minor speed on their boots; you're moving constantly to close or maintain distance. If a shaman sits still their earthbind is useless and they're meat. For what little benefit it gives, Ancestral Knowledge is a lot more useful than imp HW ever will be. Also, shamans can and do go above 100 damage on shocks if geared correctly, especially on this server with the extra few +damage items they can have access to.

The Paladin talents are because their role is to flag carry, so they need maximum beef. They're not damage dealers. And beyond that, +hit doesn't matter in battlegrounds anyways. Literally every other talent Paladin has in this bracket is more valuable than Precision for PvP. You use holy spells which aren't resisted except through the standard minimum spell resist every class has.

I'm not joking when I say you're not ready. I'm not trying to tell you it's not possible, because you have passion and it shows, but take a moment to read and learn from the vets if you're serious about this.

I checked new quests after patch 1.16.4 Patch 1.16.4 — Tel'Abim, Winter Veil Vale & more! and found that Theramore line starts with The Second Wave ends with quest A Heroes Reward provide cool rings for horde.
Band of Durotar +5 strength, +2 Agility, +4 Stamina
Signet of Durotar +4 Intellect, +2 Spirit, +5 spell damage and healing
Circlet of Durotar +7 Agility, +1 Stamina, +2 Spirit
According to database, all items require level 18. quest is available for level 10.

I also found a quest Reunite Tribe-Tribe! and going to check it soon. It is in Wetlands and provide mail chest Gowlfang\'s Vest which is nice temporary filler until you get leather one from Vancliff.
UPD: I checked this quest. It requires killing lvl 27 mobs in packs of melee+caster. You probably need some help, but any around lvl 28 will manage. Last chest is located on small island at the bottom of the dam. I have no addon to get coordinates, thats why I used macro

Code: Select all

/script local locX, locY = GetPlayerMapPosition("player");DEFAULT_CHAT_FRAME:AddMessage(locX .. ", " .. locY);
It showed 0.6466, 0.7055
This chest is probably best green one available from quest at this level.

Added quest for blue axe Horde Defender\'s Axe 2h axe with 15.3 DPS.
Seems like new quest for horde, which involves participating in battleground.
It is worse in terms of DPS than Crescent Staff from WC with 20.3 DPS. Axe is harder to get because you need to lose low level wsg. It progably happens rarer than WC. Though I appreciate that devs have added such thing and I add new axe to my list as viable option.

Another interesting find. 5th step of this quest https://database.turtle-wow.org/?quest=39998
teleports you from Thunder bluff to Westfall. If you abandon this quest and pick it again, you will be teleported again.

You can get almost all gear mentioned on this page by your own character of level 19 without help of higher level.

Encnahts is hardest part because it just require a lot of gold with little ways of earning it. Though it is absolutely possible.

How to earn money for enchants on lvl 19.
There is obvious "gather stuff/kill mobs, sell stuff". But some options are more profitable than others.
Best way is to make lvl 60 mage and learn how to AoE farm crocolisks in ZG. It is banned on Chinese servers, so here are other options.
Making donor character is always best option, but if you want to take challenge and earn gold on low level, then there are other options.
To gather open world stuff, you need to move to less crowded place. For alliance it is darkshore, for horde - silverpine forest.
  • sell copper bars/ores. Tin is awfully cheap, but you still can sell it to vendors.
  • sell silver ores. bars are much cheaper, because people use ore to level mining by smelting
  • fish for oily blackmouth on barrens/darkshore/silverpine coast, sell it on ah
  • fish stranglethorn vale, sell stuff. could be more effective if you level survival to 75 to craft boat
  • craft&sell Whirring Bronze Gizmo, deadly blunderbuss, trolls blood potion
  • gather&sell briarthorn, swiftthisle. Other low level herbs too cheap on AH. Peacebloom, silverleaf, earthroot usually sold for vendor price. Stranglekelp can be collected and sold to vendors. 1s/herb is good enough. This herb also is not very popular in crafting.
  • pick enchanting, buy low priced high level gear, sell enchanting dust, essences
  • craft target dummies, plant and loot them. sometimes it drop fused wiring. sell it on ah
  • sell materials needed for transmogrification: Small Leather Collar, Small Furry Paw
  • After patch 1.17.0 you can gather&sell Murloc Eye, which is used for high level potion
  • farm solo/duo shimmering race event. Some items can be sold to vendors for reasonable price.

Cool. Thank you.
It seems that Sword of Laneron was changed in recent patches, because it used to had only spirit on it.
Items you mention come from quest with other options. They are cool too. I also added them.

The best MH weapon for melee 19 twinks is Olmann Sewar. Requires Ravenholdt rep to honored and has no level requirement. It's slightly higher then Shadowfang and has +7stam..

Speedy Racer Goggles are in the list.

Olmann Sewar is not so trivial. I searched forum for this and found that you can raise reputation with them by killing Syndicate members, but it is up to 1999/2000 neutral. How exactly you would get past neutral? Is it possible for both sides or only for alliance?
May be it is possible to mind-control this NPC and sell item?

Anyway, thanks for pointing out. I'll investigate.

UPD:
I visited Ravenholdt manor as my twink horde warrior lvl 19 and haven't found any available quests.
Killing Syndicate mobs doesn't grant you Ravenholdt reputation.
There are bugs about that reputation in bugtracker, but it is stuck because "current state is blizzlike"

Passive waiting never worked. You can try to gather party via private messages or spam in world chat.
Twink owners usually hang on their mains and join only when bg pops.
I also made kind of "guide" regarding arrangement of low level battleground. Some advices might be useful

Are you people able to find any BG's on that level bracket? Cause i found non, even on the most populated days.
no one on a private server is generally dumb enough to queue into pvp at 10-19..if at all, we've seen the rogue punch builds that just auto win against all classes so i dont see the point, i guess the optimal gear is having a macro begging people to join 10-19

Yes, several, but it really does depend on the time of day. EU time I generally see more than NA but had 5-6 games just today.

Twink scene has some remarkably geared people but the skilled players are few and far between. If you wind up needing help with gearing out lmk, don't use the guide in this thread it's pretty bad.

Didnt understand your message at all, bg is not 1 v 1, there can be rogues in each team, and what is so special about private servers?

Added Bow of Alah'Thalas 5.4 DPS, +1 agility
The only known ranged weapon at this bracket with stats.
Chain starts from item Feltouched Letter dropped by Veloren Brightstar

I'll check goblin starting location, may be it also has come gun with stats.
Xudo - tauren warrior 19 Sergeant armory.
I don't raid and rank, so you can not bother asking.
Nerf high level enchants on low level gear
Add lvl requirement to bandages
Best and optimal gear for 10-19 twinks
Have fun not only at 60.
