That's a very cute little quest line. I really like it.
We're still open to community works! There's no specific area we can give you to focus, just find an idea you think is good, do some designing, and toss up a suggestion post. I'll be sure to give it a read :)
Dragunovi spoke to this quite often prior to the goblin/helf expansion. Using spells that are already in game or reactivating features that blizzard canned is doable but adding custom spells and/or recipes is much more involved and there's a much higher risk of it wildly unbalancing classes, specs, or even NPC's. I don't believe it has ever been said that it is impossible but I think the reward for adding abilities doesn't outweigh the risk.
