lost character to power outage, could anything been done to prevent it?

so last night my power went off and i immediatly went to account manager trying to use the "unstuck function". page kept telling me that character is "online" and i cant use the unstuck. few minutes later power was back up and i was able to log in, just to see my warrior dead. so theres really nothing that couldve been done to prevent that death? keep a fucking laptop with mobile internet on the ready?

Happened to me at level 51. Then I bought a UPS which the computer and router are plugged into. Power can go off but Internet and computer stays on for a good 10 minutes

Yes shit happens. Same thing on a 53 rogue when some construction dude thought it was wise to excavate a power line. If a hc death would upset me to the point that I feel it necessary to make a forum post about it, I'd play softcore tbh.

That is why i won't create HC toon here anytime soon. Too much luck and RNG involved.
Even if u did nothing wrong, server can lag, still crash and DC can screw you up pretty bad.
Not a fan of dying to things I can't control

Eh, personally it adds to the excitement IMO and I'm not even joking.
You can also get to 60 killing mobs a few levels below yours - where's the fun in that?

It's a journey and the fun part is mostly over at around 45ish when you have your entire toolkit at your disposal. It's a drag 50-60 and I'm usually just happy that it's over. You ain't gonna die unless you got a massive rl int debuff and try to solo Pawn x Queen or walk into Jeadenar unprepared.

I'm a WoW noob, played Retail maybe a few months for the free trial and then years later moved to Kronos until its population plummeted, and I'm rolling my first Turtle toon in Hardcore.

My question is:
If I die irreversibly in Hardcore, can I delete my ghost toon and start over again at level 1 with the same name?
I understand the rules of Hardcore re. permanency of death; I'm just curious if I can recycle the name.

Yeah, you can do that. The only thing that'll prevent you from keeping the name is if it gets flagged somehow by the GMs, or if it gets taken in the time it takes to re-make the character. Which is pretty improbable.
