Level curve in Hardcore

I have written a short program that reads the table in hardcore armory https://armory.turtle-wow.org/hardcore/ and obtains a chart showing how many characters are alive for every level.

It was simply a curiosity of mine, but maybe someone can find it interesting too

Edit: added percentage and top percentage.

Percentages:
10-19: 61,37% -> Top 100%
20-29: 23,27% -> Top 38.63%
30-39: 8,84% -> Top 15.36%
40-49: 4,23% -> Top 6.52%
50-59: 2,29% -> Top 2.29%

I find it interesting that at 20, 30 and 40 lvl we have peaks

Yeah, there's some surprising spikes, but for the most part it's a pretty steep slope. My guess would be that those peaks are levels where, if you reach them, you tend to get stuck there for a while before you either find a new area to level in, or overreach.

This is awesome data to see! Some interesting spikes. It would probably be worth putting 59 into its own bracket rather than doing 50-59 due to a lot of players staying at 59 to be perpetual hardcore. That would likely give a more reflective percentage for HC levellers

Honestly, THIS is exactly what already makes HC interesting to me.
Other games, where death ultimately doesn't matter, the curve is totally reversed as there's a big pile at level cap and the only ones left are people leveling alts, lowbie areas are empty.

Absolute reverse curve here, the lowbie areas are packed, always, and the higher-levels are emptier and presumably scarier. (likely in shadow of this HC graph there's a non-HC population that is more conventionally distributed, so in REALITY those 30-50 zones are going to be the least absolutely populated, and we should see a greater population thereafter albeit nearly-all non HC.

It is really wild to see how much the deaths slow around the level 27 mark. I imagine statistics would say something along the lines of half the hardcores who reach 30 will hit 60.

I think basically that levelling becomes easier. There are many more options where to quest or grind and we have more toys (skills) to play with. Tbh I don’t think the mobs quite keep up with characters as we go through the levels and ofc we get to know the class better.

I don't find it surprising at all.

Big relative power surge at those levels for almost every class.

The question is: why players stay at those levels and don't level further?
I think it is because x0 levels work like milestone. Player reach 30 and thinks "yeah, I think it is enough for me". Some players raise bar higher and reach 40 lvl.

@Aerumna can you share your script? Would be interesting to see the current distribution.
