From what I was able to read, in the original vanilla Zul'jin is mentioned in several quests as "being missing". Some Revantusk Trolls seem to be awaiting for his return, while others, like the Captured Hakkari Zealot on Yojamba Isle, believe he's dead.
How come he's back now, at Amani'alor? Where was he all this time, why is he back now? Will this be explained in future quests?

Yes, it'll be explained in future quests, particularly when the turtle wow version of the Ghostlands is added. There are some quests about his return in game right now but I don't remember exactly what and where. Probably best to ask in the discord for further info.
