I can only offer an option that I did for myself.
This is NOT an addon, but a third-party application that allows you to reassign the keyboard and mouse to the gamepad buttons. The application does not change anything in the client.
The control turned out to be quite convenient, if you can do better, then share it with the others.

1 - Unzip or install the archive in the desired folder.
2 - Launch the app before or after the game.
3 - Play and be happy.
A description of the layout is attached.
The default game management is required!

I'm fairly certain it's doable through steam. Add twow into steam then search for controller profiles. I've had several friends get it up and running thru the the steamdeck
