Pvp situation for resto druids

Post by Elleshar » Mon May 20, 2024 10:50 pm

I would say for the most part druids is overall in a decent spot when it comes to pvp, we win some matchups and we lose others. Rock, paper, scissor the way classic wow has always been. Turtle wow has improved druid somewhat when it comes to feral especially versus it's sad "classic" state which I appreciate, making it viable to play. I haven't tried lots of boomkin but it's alright too from the limited testing I have done.

What I think hasn't gotten any love however is resto druids, specifically alliance resto druids. Why you might ask?

Compared to horde druids we have on alliance side two classes that have instant dispels/purges, making all our HoT spells basically useless. Even if you fake cast rank 1 spells making them go oom is basically non existent, shamans for example here with no gcd totems and near free water shield makes it a moot point to try to outlast or win a mana war against them. When you take in all these factors all resto druids have to rely on is then nature swiftness and healing touch, one of the healing spells with the longest casting time in the game. Good luck not getting silenced when trying to cast it!
Of course you have swiftmend too but you will never get off against a decent priest/shaman. Even warlocks felhunter can easily eat HoTs too.

Now the solution and the way blizzard balanced this in tbc and later expansions was with the introduction of a new spell - Lifebloom. A smaller rejuv basically that heals for a bit if it gets dispelled or finish it's duration. It would solve a lot of problems but if twow doesn't want to implement that I would also suggest some talent that made HoTs have a higher chance to be resisted or not dispelled so easily. This was also introduced in later expansions for druids to deal with this problem.

The reason I bring this up now is because looking at the twow roadmap there might be some future pvp changes in the future, and if they ever bring up rated bgs or rated arenas it would be nice if resto druids were a viable spec to play.

I hope this gives some consideration or discussion for those interested.

I'd love if HoT/DoT protection talent would be a thing. Both for resto druid and affli warlock.

I remember it being a thing for both classes in later expansions.

Without lifebloom I am not sure how effective it would be, the numbers might need tweaking but it would certainly be a improvement. For reference here is the talent in wotlk.

Druids are broken in PVP yes, but not the tree ones.
Does bear need a nerf? Yes.
But it doesn't mean that the tree doesn't need a buff.

You don't sound like a very good player. This is only true for ferals versus melee, not casters.

But if you don't want to see changes to resto druids expect the pvp meta to remain unchanged, meaning only feral druids in pvp.

Yep Resto Druid is bottom tier (but still viable as all Healers are desirable)
This is fine as Druid should be bottom tier as they have great flexibility

However yes Shamans Purge ability is overpowered in PVP and should be nerfed to cost more mana so spamming it is more costly.

Shaman might actually have to think rather than mindlessly spam Purge
Paladin and Frost Mage are overpowered in PVP/PVE.
Warrior is awful in PVP.
Druid is a bad class. This is intended and wise design.
Enhancement Shaman is fine. Stop begging for goofy custom abilities.

Druids are broken in PVP yes, but not the tree ones.
Let me elaborate this with values: 1 Worst - 5 Best. * means exceptionally good/bad
  • Bear BG 5, Arena 5*
  • Cat BG 2/3, Arena 1/2
  • Moonkin Bg 3, Arena 2
  • Healer BG 3, Arena 2/3
  • Tree Healer BG 1/2, Arena 1*
Out of the 5 specs 3 are average but need some improvements (biggest weakness is lack of interrupt and buffs getting dispelled) 1 is extreme Good and 1 is extreme Bad.

Problem is Bear hits like a wet noodle, compared to say paladins, only way as Bear to do dmg is go into cat form, then you just get nuked down in 2-3 seconds, basically a shitty rogue with no utility in Cat.

Bear is hard to kill, as feral because you get +25% more stam with feral talent, and Frenzied Regen is kinda overturned, probably nerf to 5-7% then it'll be lot better.

So basically in PvP Feral is forced into bear because everyone seems to focus you as cat. Then you hit like a wet noodle you can only outlast a warrior in a duel, paladin will cut through your armor with Holy Strike and casters nuke you down as bear, so no, you cannot just sit in bear form.

Yeah, going tree in anything but maybe AV is really bad.
