Hows SP vs hunter going ?
Is hunter is a free food for sp (especially if undead) on equal gear if its not open field with ability to kite ?

Sp vs Hunter, it depends. If the hunter can get away quick enough, they'll live. But if I can land a MB and swp, yeah they're dead before Viper sting kills my mana. SP is very strong in pvp in vanilla and tbc. Swp does so much DMG for an insta cast if you can't dispel it.

If given infinite space and time, the hunter can keep applying viper sting from 41 yards away, avoid engagement, kite and wait until the priest's mana is gone.
Otherwise the priest is likely to kill the hunter.

Hopefully pain spike will be scrapped during the next class changes.

Because it was a totally uncalled for addition that makes a PvP juggernaut much better while having close to zero PvE application.
Just another poorly thought-out addition just like holy strike.

It's still very useful in PVE if you have Spirit Tap talent. Though I agree that in PVP Pain Spike deals too much damage.
The devil is in the detail.

Pain spike is the poor man's version of Shadow word: Death

all boils down to individual skill. on paper priest is at advantage, yet if you look in internet many videos shows 1v1 priest vs hunter where hunter comes on top.
This game is not rock>paper>scissors.

Yes, if the hunter is significantly more skilled and better equipped, then they can beat the shadow priest. But that just shows that the matchup fundamentally favors the SP in 1v1 (by a wide margin). If an SP loses to a hunter, it means the latter was much, much stronger.

DoT classes are generally a problem for hunters, but SP is the worst in my opinion.

However, as much as the SP will dominate the hunter in 1v1, in group vs group, the hunter can be a real nuisance for the SP, with mana drains, CC, turret mode DPS, especially since the hunter will be healed. In this context, he is more formidable than the SP, and the longer the fight goes on, the more the hunter will gain the upper hand.

Twow hunter is a nobrainer with steady shot and insane pet regeneration
That explains why every av alliance has 50% hunters
