Priests should be able to wield 2H Maces
Priests should be able to wield 2H Maces
Yes, I know it sounds a bit out there, but hear me out.
There are a lot of 2H maces that are geared towards paladins that could just as easily be worn by priests - holy damage, int, spirit, all the good stuff, but with a bit of DPS ontop.
Why would priests care about DPS on a melee weapon you say? Melee/wand weaving. Leveling priests utilize this mechanic quite a lot and it provides some really good mana-free DPS to go with your DoTs and shields. But these tactics are basically useless when it comes to the endgame - staves and one-handers just don't have the OOMPH to make it worthwhile, and priests don't really have anything to buff their melee other than Inner Fire.
With the class changes patch coming, I want to build upon this idea and propose that Discipline priests be given more of a Monk or Battle Priest focus - they already have buffs to wands and Inner Fire, so they're best suited for the job. There are a lot of things that could be done to make it work, all the way from paladin-esque melee holy spells to outright pseudo-tank talents.
I'm obviously dreaming big here, but what I want to say is that there is a lot of potential in the Discipline tree, to make it something more than just "that spec with the Power Infusion". I hope the class changes council can utilize some of these ideas.

What about Paladins using staves then? There's alot of those geared towards healing that a Holy Paladin cannot use.

I haven't played MoP, so I don't know what Blizzard's Monk class does or doesn't do, I just want a priest spec that is better at melee and fits the monk/battle priest fantasy, without being a paladin clone.
I would also love to see Blademaster rogues with 2H swords and polearms, but that topic belongs to the Rogue forums.

Remove Paladins from the game, and allow Priest to wear Plate and 2h Mace.

Re: Priests should be able to wield 2H Maces
I think it would be cool to have priests to wear shields.
Re: Priests should be able to wield 2H Maces
I like the idea, reminds me of a cleric or battle priest.
Idea 1.
New talent called "Exotic Weaponry" to learn for classes to be able to use weapons that aren't normally open to them.
So it's an investment in the talent tree, so not everyone will spend the points to unlock it.
Idea 2.
Another way if the Weapon Trainers or Class Trainers puts you on a quest called The Way of the (Hammer/Sword/Blade/Staff/Axe) etc after doing this quest it could open up the option to equip said weapon.
No idea, how this could affect the balance of the game would need a lot of testing, could be OP, needs to not break the game.

Priest are range heals/dps not melee at all. You're describing a paladin....
Re: Priests should be able to wield 2H Maces
Yes True indeed, you're right…
But I'm not saying that a Priest could wear "Plate or Mail"
Paladin did come about to be that holy warrior, I'm saying more of a middle ground a holy peacekeeper.
Only an idea ofc, Yeah you're right and Paladin is my favour class, if a play another one I don't think I will let him use blades go full bludgeoning.
