1.17.1 Itemization Changelog

Greetings! Here's the itemization changelog detailing all item related additions and changes coming in Patch 1.17.1: Labor and Legacy.

The list might seem a bit small but that's due to the majority of changes planned for this patch being pushed forward with the Midpatch Itemization Changes that happened sometime after the release of Patch 1.17.0.



Keep in mind that the changes and additions are subject to change and not final.

Item Additions
  • Added 16 drops for the new rares found in Blackstone Island, Thalassian Highlands and Forlorn Summit.
  • Added 7 new crafting recipes for the new starting zones: Maritime Gumbo, Gloves of Manathirst, Blast Shield, Volatile Concoction, Unstable Mining Dynamite, Lynxstep Boots and Enchant 2H Weapon - Minor Intellect.
  • Added many junk drops to Thalassian Highlands.
  • Added something fanatical to C'thun.
  • Added Aspect of Seradane to Solnius.
Item Adjustments
  • Obsidian Mail Tunic now reduces spell damage taken by 3% instead of a flat 10 damage.
  • Sigil of Penetration and Invocation of Shattering now grant 40 Armor Penetration down from 75.
  • Invocation enchants from Lower Karazhan Halls should now function properly without needing a dedicated fix patch.
  • Totem of Flowing Water's mana return has been buffed from 10 to 25.
  • Totem of the Endless Flicker now has a new effect: "Increases the duration of your Flame Shock by 3 sec."
  • Totem of the Calming Water now grants 8 MP5 instead of 5 MP5 and additionally grants 10 more mana when your Water Shield is struck.
  • Idol of Evergrowth now has a new effect: "Your Thorns additionally gives a 3% chance when attacked to inflict 15-20 Nature damage to nearby enemies."
  • Libram of Truth now has a new effect: "Your Devotion Aura additionally reduces all physical damage taken 2%."
  • Staff of the Qiraji Prophets now grants you 3% Spell Hit when its effect is procced instead of 50 Spell Penetration, but its proc chance has been reduced from 25% to 15%.
  • Drake Talon Cleaver's proc rate has been increased from 1 to 2 procs per minute.
  • Neretzek, The Blood Drinker's proc rate has been increased from 0.8 to 1.4 procs per minute.
  • Hyperchromatic Deflector and Towerforge Battlegear's 3 Set Bonus now has a 3% chance to reflect spells down from 5%.
  • Thornpod's range has been reduced from 20 to 8 yards and now scales 0.05 from Spellpower down from 1.
  • Chromie's Broken Pocket Watch's spell proc now properly reduces casting speed, the old stats have been restored and the description updated to be clearer.
  • Fixed incorrect armor and block values on some low level custom items.
  • Renamed the trinket version of Shard of Eternity to Temporal Anomaly to prevent confusion.
Emerald Sanctum Loot and Loottable Adjustments
  • Normal Mode Loot:
    - Fixed slightly off armor values for most pieces, netting an overall increase in armor.
    - Increased item level from 76 to 78, increasing overall power.
    • Robe of the Dreamways: 44 -> 46 Spellpower
    • Jadestone Helmet: 16 -> 18 Agility, 15 -> 16 Strength
    • Staff of the Dreamer: 106 -> 121 Healing Power, 4 -> 5 MP5
    • Shard of Nightmare: 36 -> 37 Spellpower
    • Veil of Nightmare: 30 -> 32 Attack Power
    • Sandals of Lucidity: 16 -> 18 Stamina, 17 -> 18 Intellect
    • Sanctum Bark Wraps: 14 -> 15 Agility, 13 -> 14 Stamina
    • Talonwind Gauntlets: 20 -> 22 Agility
    • Mantle of the Wakener: 26 -> 28 Spellpower
    • Mallet of the Awakening: 10 -> 11 Stamina, Increased DPS from 57.5 to 59.9
    • Scaleshield of Emerald Flight: 11 -> 12 All Stats
    • Ancient Jade Leggings: Added 9 Strength
    • Axe of Dormant Slumber: 8 -> 9 Strength, Increased DPS from 58.2 to 59.8
    • Ring of Nature's Duality: 51 -> 40 Healing Power, Replaced 1% Spell Hit with 1% Spell Crit (Hopefully the last change on this item.)
  • Hardmode Loot:
    - Increased item level from 78 to 81, increasing overall power.
    • Choker of the Emerald Lord: 27 -> 28 Spellpower, 11 -> 12 Nature Resist, Added 1% Spell Hit
    • Crystal Sword of the Blossom: Increased DPS from 59.4 to 62.9
    • Naturecaller's Tunic: 18 -> 20 Stamina, 20 -> 21 Intellect, 13 -> 25 Spirit
    • Nature's Call: 5 -> 8 Stamina, Increased DPS from 46.8 to 49.0
    • Jadestone Protector: 12 -> 13 Intellect, 15 -> 18 Extra Block Value
    • Breath of Solnius: 10 -> 11 Spirit
  • Claw of Erennius Quest Rewards:
    - Rewards buffed from Item Level 66 to 74, increasing stats alongside it.
    • Jadestone Skewer: 35 -> 39 Agility, Increased DPS from 62.6 to 72.8 and Feral Attack Power from 84 to 196
    • Jadestone Mallet: 8 -> 10 Stamina, 6 -> 13 Spirit, 68 -> 106 Healing Power
    • Claw of Senthos: 20 -> 24 Attack Power, Increased DPS from 48.1 to 56.0
In addition to the loot changes, the Solnius and Favor of Erennius (Hardmode Reward Chest) have seen adjustments, even completely redoing Solnius' loottable. Here are the notable changes:
  • Smoldering Dream Essence, which is needed for the Druid's Emerald Blessing, now has a 35% chance to drop up from 20%.
  • Solnius and Favor of Erennius are now guaranteed to drop a Fading Dream Fragment but Solnius no longer drops Small Dream Shards. This should make his overall Dream Shard net not luck dependant and overall higher if you can clear him in Hardmode.
  • Bag of the Vast Conscious now has a 25% chance to drop instead of 15% chance from Solnius and you are now guaranteed a Bag of the Vast Conscious from the Favor of Erennius.
  • Solnius' gear drop loot groups are now split into three which consist of the Physical, Magical and Weapon/Relic categories, making sure that he's unable to roll multiple of the same items from the same kill. This adjustment also fixes the edge cases where he had a very rare chance to not drop an item from one of the loot groups.
  • Solnius is now guaranteed to drop a Dreamscale up from 48% chance.
  • Enchant Gloves - Nature Power is now properly part of the crafting recipes loot group.
  • Formula: Eternal Dreamstone Shard now has a 1% chance to drop, up from 0.85% chance.
Crafting Recipe Adjustments
  • Arcanite Belt Buckle's Arcanite Bar cost has been reduced from 8 to 3.

Fix the High Elves helmet bug.
The ears can't be seen when they wear helmets and only a hole can be seem, it looks bad.

The cost of doing transmutes are insane. Cool down period is unnecessary long.

Just like vendor cool downs. All unnecessary and designed to keep players online (edited)at a time when subscriptions were a thing. (Edited)Unnecessary game mechanics designed to keep the subscription going. Needs to be gone and abandoned so the players can enjoy the game.

Agreed. It should go down to 1 arcanite bar. Such a high cost is unheard of for an enchant in all of wow's history

5 defense rating is arguably not even worth 1 arcanite bar. If you're going to have it be crafted from arcanite bars, it should be changed to 1% crit or something fittingly valuable. 1% parry/1% dodge if you want to keep it as a tank stat enchant.

Another thing, while you reduce arcanite bar cost add some more thorium bars in there to compensate, and also helps fixing thorium prices slightly.

Some more things that might be good additions to the changelog since they have already been hinted at in other places (and may or may not be current anymore):

Kara10 enchants being fixed for everyone (not just those who downloaded patch-Z.mpq).
Whatever the final state of armor pen enchants (Hyjal, Kara10) will be.
Whatever the final state of Chromie's Broken Pocket Watch will be.

Nothing on tweaking the meme class that are pallys? Or are they going to announce those just before patch?

A tanking, high damage, plate wearing class that can heal is fine, yea... its fine.
But please the damage in PVP is just ridiculous, i feel like its the elephant in the room.
Are the devs all pallys or something?

Why nerf armor penetration enchants? We have items like Bonereaver (full stacks 2100 armor pen), i dont understand why. Melees can get armor pen from anothers options like arms or procs "chance to hit" that ignores armor, but Hunters havent nothing, only that enchants.. :/

One of is a dungeon drop and one is a drop from AQ40 + their goals aren't in direct competition, its mana regeneration based not healing based.

It's still worse than Rhok'delar for hunters and useless for melee DPS.

Players will never use mana returning totem, because they will loose 80 healing power.

There is Totem of the Maelstrom in TBC, it reduces mana cost of Healing Wave by 24.
Bad totem, but you can use it situationally when you are oom.
Healing Wave rank 1 becomes free and you can spam it waiting for mana reg.

I don't know situation when even new Totem of Flowing Water becomes usefull.
Only complete rework of this totem can help.

Increase Crafting plans drop% or make those recipes BoE, or the crafted items BoE that drop from ES.
Overall i think having 3/4 of the items that are obtainable outdoors via farming and 1 from raid is dumb, should just be 4set from the same questgivers that you get the 3 other pieces from.

As a melee enjoyer myself, i do find it quite silly that ES "HM" can drop better 1h offhand than R14 weapons are aswell, just my thought.

What for? Less threat?
Those two items suffer from identity crisis and aren't good for anything.
Not the bracers. They are great for cat AND bear. Ferals get free 3% hit from a talent here, so we don't need as much hit on items. And many feral items have hit anyways.

Why? ArmorPen is already subpar and those enchants were only marginally better for a regular raid (Curse of Recklessness + 5x sunder stacks + faerie fire) than +8 str, now it will be completely useless.
