Yes! The client will automatically delete the old patches and download the new versions.

There are multiple steps to attempt to fix this issue:

• 1. Ensure your folder is not in a protected directory (ex. Program Files, Downloads, Documents etc). We recommend something like C:\Games\TurtleWoW

• 2. Ensure the client is named WoW.exe

• 3. Run WoW.exe and TWPatcher.exe as Administrator

• 4. Disable Antivirus or Windows Defender.

Yes you can, if you have an M1/M2 mac (like me) you can install the Windows version inside of Parallels on your Mac. Works great, i even use the HD patch.

There are some articles also on how to use wineskin if you prefer that.

When downloading a torrent you can often select which files you would like download or not. qBittorrent is a good example. But it sounds like you would benefit from a fresh client, it's safer to download a fresh client imo.
