Shaman Damage Types
Shaman Damage Types
Does everyone like the fact that the shaman does all three in damage, or should it be more one type. Also, Resto is understood as nature, but shouldn't it be closer to frost? Since it's technically water magic we use. Just some thoughts, for example, should the three trees focus on one type each? I know we'll never get the true damage of holy (paladin), but even with the resistance throughout azeroth, should we still be type focused?

Re: Shaman Damage Types
The majority of Shaman's magic dmg is nature. Getting counterspelled while casting any spell as shaman will show you that.
And technically, Chain Heal and (implied by the same type of visual effects) healing wave are granted either by the Loa or through Voodoo, as it is the Shadow Hunter's ability in Warcraft 3 alongside the Healing Totem, and, if the haters of the Troll Druid concept are to be believed, Shamans don't heal through nature magic.

>Futhermore, I think that Shaman should be reworked.

Re: Shaman Damage Types
thats the tradeoff for having 6k armor, healing and insta casts with built in kick.
lorewise you could say lightning spells (elemental) and resto spells are different forms of magic but balance wise they should be on the same schools. one of the things blizzard devs did very well so many years ago

Re: Shaman Damage Types
The only thing that could hit us bad, and it does so often, is the being locked out of everything but our flame shock or frost shock
Having 6k armor and instant heals....pallies have an instant heal, an instant fap, etc, and they wear plate....
And yes, the spells are different schools, whether blizz wants to say otherwise, as far as spell type, holy type, deals true damage, since holy resistance doesn't exist in Azeroth, albeit potions and such, but the mobs themselves don't have it naturally

Re: Shaman Damage Types
Palas can't kick someone every 6 sec.
In fact, they don't have a kick at all.
They also can't shoot people from 36 yards.
And they definitely can't do that to 3 people at the same time with 1.5 chain lightning attacks.
Paladin also faces the same issue shamans face with their skills being locked primarily to one spell school - holy. Yes, a melee class can be spell locked out of their damaging attacks.
So I'm not sure what your point is.

Defensives make them capable of closing the gap easily
CL doesn't do that anymore, in fact, that was the ele shaman with specific build and gear, originally
Pally getting locked doesn't kill him, locking a pally just turns them into a warrior, still melee dmg heavy
Shamans have nothing like this, the pally having several Oh Sh*t buttons already puts them up there

Re: Shaman Damage Types
not even by horde of shamans in bg spamming grounding totems, which don't even get destroyed when they neutralize an ability, only when directly attacked?

Re: Shaman Damage Types
I play shaman, and as cool as the new grounding totem is, I honestly would have been alright with it's original take.Forumdweller wrote: Tue Jun 17, 2025 12:45 pmnot even by horde of shamans in bg spamming grounding totems, which don't even get destroyed when they neutralize an ability, only when directly attacked?

What we really needed was Tremor totem being able to be cast during effects, and working 100%, not a chance to remove effects, and have it with a longer cooldown, so it can't make itself or the shaman overpowered
The totem removals or reworks are just no good honestly
But going back to the original convo, we need more focus in our three types of damage, not mid spells for each
