Over the past year, we've reached incredible milestones — announcing ambitious projects like the Turtle WoW 2.0 Unreal Engine 5 client and releasing the Tower of Karazhan, the largest patch in Vanilla+ history. There's much more to come in the next year — we have no plans of slowing down!
Thank you for sharing our passion for the game and supporting us on this journey. There's nothing more rewarding than logging into the realm and seeing so many of you adventuring with the same unending enthusiasm as when the game first launched 20 years ago.
Tonight we're sharing a few updates on the ongoing Unreal Azeroth team's development of the new client:
General / Legacy Mode:
- The graphics engine for Legacy mode is complete, aside from weather effects and a few minor elements.
- Smoother performance: textures, models, and visual assets are now loaded asynchronously, using only the resources required for the current mode.
- The new animation engine now supports all visual effects, including bones, lights, particles, and textures.
- The FrameXML widget API is fully implemented for scripting and customization.
- Spell and item tooltips are fully implemented.
- Pet systems are now functional.
- The taxi system is now functional.
- World map, minimap, and 3D objects in the UI are all working.
- The talent UI is fully functional.
- Death effects, corpses, and related features are ready.
- Sky, moon movements, and cloud generation are working as intended.
- Lots of small things that make the game playable: flying splines, quest log, etc.
Yesterday, we finally logged into Nordanaar and witnessed all of you playing the game from the original clients on the same serve:
Modern Mode:
- Weather effects are now fully supported.
- Sky, moon movements, and cloud generation are working as intended.
- Blizzard light sources are now adapted for Modern mode, with plans to completely remake all WMO lights.
- Modern mode now features its own independent light cycles, separate from Legacy.
ALPHA DEVELOPMENT FOOTAGE // GRAPHICS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE
The world's first player to experience Unreal Engine WoW in Modern Mode on a live server!
Legacy / Modern Switch:
- We can now fully confirm it will be possible to seamlessly switch between modes in-game, with fully separate shaders, shading paths, and resources for each.
