More Azeroth culinary dishes!

Post by Reploidrocsa » Wed Sep 25, 2024 2:30 pm

Coming from the post of my desire for more food/drink facilities in the world

viewtopic.php?p=71713&hilit=bakery#p71713

I went a step further and observed Azeroth world: so many different places, biomes and cultures, yet so few food/drink variety. So after some study of race lore, zones and some ideas taken from real world recipes, i've came up with some culinary dishes that ideally would be sold in specific zones or looted by humanoids only. Feels very weird to me that Scarlet monastery zealots drop Stormwind Brie instead of supplying on closer food sources.

That being said, after some race research i've came up with some general conclusions:

Humans like to mix strong with mild flavours.
Dwarves love strong and hearty flavours.
Gnomes usually copy dwarven recipes and artificially enrich them with additives and an industrialized touch
Night elves like to distill and juice fresh fruits and vegetables.
High elves prefer mild flavours.

Orcs like acid and meaty flavours.
Trolls don't care too much what they eat, but they lean towards seafood for convinience.
Undead prefer to either preserve their food or go for very strong and foul flavours.
Tauren like mild solid foods and strong flavoured drinks.
Goblins promote foods that are "tourist traps" or "scammy", keeping the good food for themselves.

Author: Karen
Zone: Dun Morogh
Item: Dense Energy Cube
Flavor text (optional) : artificially made by gnomes to help survive after being thrown out from gnomergan
Type of food: Meat
Gastronomic Origin: Gnomes
Notes: Based on real world pemmican
Image

Zone: Thousand Neddles
Item: Shimmering Flats Steamed "Ham"
Type of food: Meat
Gastronomic Origin: Goblin
Notes: Based on the old simpsons gag "Steamed Hams", is one of the "scam" foods goblins sell at shimmering flats. Since there's a lot of salt in there, they use it to disguise the food for a "ham"
Image

Zone:Darkshore
Item: Darkshore Grouper Soup
Type of food: Fish
Gastronomic Origin: Night Elven
Notes: Since it's a common species in the coasts of Darkshore, some parts of the fish are safe to be consumed raw, while the rest is usually cooked into soup
Image

Zone: Felwood
Item: Felwood Distilled Fungi Infusion
Type of food: Drink
Gastronomic Origin: Night Elven/Tauren

Image

Image

Notes: By picking and drying local berries, taurens are able to make this aromatic and strong flavoured tea
Image

Zone: Durotar
Item: Orgrimmar Boar Wine
Type of food: Alcohol

Notes: I swear i saw this one some wiki or warcraft novel. They used boars stomachs to pour grape juices, berries and fungus, sealed them and let them ferment inside the stomach. A few days later they open it and the final product became an alcoholic beverage
Image

Zone: The Barrens

Image

Image

Type of food: Fruit
Gastronomic Origin: Kaldorei/Night Elven

Image

Zone: Duskwallow Marsh
Item: Theramore Naval Hardtack
Type of food: Bread
Gastronomic Origin: Human
Notes: Based on our Hardtack, which was used by the military and travelers until mass canned food became available. It consist on a very basic bread without yeast and baked at low temp in the oven for long periods of time. The result is some form of crackers which can last for decades or even centuries without being spoiled since they lack any moist. It was usually consumed by smashing them into tiny pieces or mixed with some water or grog to make some kind of improvised soup.
Image

Zone: Silithus

Image

Zone: Blackstone Island
Item: Blackstone Spiced Canned "Krab"
Type of food: Fish
Gastronomic Origin: Goblin
Notes: Based on the SPAM cans, it's another of those "scam" foods in order for greedy goblins to make some profit.
Image

Zone: Tirisfal Glades
Item: Undercity Black Soup
Type of food: Meat
Gastronomic Origin: Undead
Notes: As announced in Everlook Broadcast radio, this dish is also inspired on the spartan "Black Soup/Black Jelly", Which consisted on animal blood with chunks of meat, some spices and boiled until it adquires a stew consistency. While it was known to have a very bitter and foul taste, it is believed it was very nutritious.
Image

Zone: Western Plaguelands
Item: Heartglen Ambrosia
Type of food: Alcohol
Gastronomic Origin: Human
Notes: This alcohol is directly taken from future wow expansions
Image

Zone: Eastern Plaguelands
Item: Eastwald Poached Worm Slices
Type of food: Meat

Notes: Undead, fascinated with preservation and embalming, made pickled products so they can last longer periods without become spoiled
Image

Zone: The Hinterlands
Item: Aerie Peak Marinated Wolf Haunch
Type of food: Meat
Gastronomic Origin: Dwarven
Notes: Greymane wolves are the main predators of Gryphons. So Wildhammer dwarves usually hunt them to keep their population in check. Since they need to hunt them regularly, they use it's meat to feed themselves and any hungry traveler. They're presented in such a form that you can eat them with one hand, having the other hand free for drinking

Image

Zone: Gilneas
Item: Gilnean Root Beer
Type of food: Drink
Gastronomic Origin: Human
Notes: Based on the real world "Root Beer". Suprisingly, root beer doesn't have any alcohol, altough it goes a similar fermentation process just like regular beer
Image

Zone: Thalassian Highlands
Item: Quel'dorei Sweet Curd
Type of food: Cheese
Gastronomic Origin: High elven
Notes: Based on real word Curd and Iogurt products, i decided to give this type of food to high elves, since their wiki says they have lesser tasted buds than dwarves and thus prefer milder flavours
Image

Zone: Arathi Highlands
Item: Stromgarde Cottage Cheese Dumplings
Type of food: Cheese
Gastronomic Origin: Human
Notes: While Stromgarde had some harbour in Previous Warcraft games but not much here in wow, instead of a fish product i've decided on some cheese dumplings, based on the real world "Lazy Vareniki", an Ukranian recipe
Image

What do i wish with all those dishes? FIrst of all, i wish to be able to visit the facilities where those foods are produced (plenty of alterac swiss, but haven't found any cheesery, same with dalaran wine, where are the wine cellars?).

And second, i wish for most zones to have a unique product, only purchaseable in that area but being lootable by humanoids able to drop food/drink of a similar level for more variety.

Let men know what you think, have a great day!

unless specified, the item is both sold and lootable from humanoids of appropiate level.Regarding values, i'll use the zone as reference for giving it's appropiate level and hp/mana restoration.
