[IDEA]
Based on horror sci fi tropes, i wanted to make some concept art and backgroud for a raid setting. This includes layout, thematic, bosses and lore. Since the action happens in a research facility, i've decided not to add any unique models, since it represents everything you find here can be found in the wild. Let's begin
[PREMISE]
Uldum, a titan facility used to research speciments on azeroth among other things. Eventually a meteor containing some unknown metal hits the facility and gets mixed with other unkown organic components inside the facility and some systems in the facility starts to malfunctioning: specimens inside containments break free and now ram loose on the facility. The keepers of the facility are either dead or in stasis, unable to wake up.
While dwarves wish to know more about their ancestry, The rest of the mortal races are interested on the technologies and knoledge inside them for their own benefits, rewarding any adventurer who venture in and bring any piece of titan technology. Little they know tho, the unknown components of the meteor mixed with experimental fluids in the facility have created unspokable horrors...
Top view and side view
Players enter at 1F Entrance. Theres some crackings in the floor, oozing a green liquid, which created a shallow puddle we have to cross.
An unknown object collided into the facility, damaging the arcane reactor that supplies energy to this place and compromising several critical systems of the station.
Because of that, the arcane reactor has become unstable: It'll eventually explode, releasing massive amounts of radiation to the planet and killing most life on the surface.
The incident also allowed to some creatures we keep here to break free and destroyed most of the keepers he have active. the system responsible to activate the ones in stasis is broken beyond repair and the distress signals i've sent to other facilities yield no response.
If your race wants to eventually live in the future, you'll have to fix the arcane reactor. I can guide you during the process, but you'll require an arcane stabilizer. My inventory logs indicate there's one in the warehouse room, in the second floor, but the elevator is locked because of the quarantine. In order to lift it, you'll have to dispose of the specimens that broke free and roam now the facility. I'll unlock the doors leading to the research chambers. Good luck.
halls have floor light pannels mixed with ancient titan architecture (typical grecoroman). Similar to the underground train from SW-IF, walls will contain enclosures with speciments and its habitat mimicked, kinda like a zoo.
B1 is a giant gorila, located in a tropical enclosure. Some kobolds follow the creature and workship him as a God.
The players will encounter some tunnels made by some kind of insect, there are some neutral larvae roaming around and... Of course, a Silithid boss (B4). He must have dug on the mountains surface and got inside the facility.
Once players reach the warehouse room they encounter a giant green larva (B5). Once defeated it drops the arcane stabilizer and... a strange metallic shard? Players didn't noticed because they were busy fighting the giant larva, But there's a big meteor in the back of the room made of the same metal as the strange shard. There's also some strange liquid oozing, the same color as the liquid in the entrance. It must have leaked to the floors below. The players grab the arcane stabilizer and the strange shard and proceed to the Maintenance Bay (N) in 1F.
We got a problem. While you were dealing with the research specimens i've detected some kind of... Organism. Apparently, the strange liquid at the entrance reacted somehow with your essence, forming an unkown lifeform. I'll call it the M321. The M321 is part organic and part mineral. Apparently is inmune to all sorts of attacks, so if you encounter any M321 just avoid it until i can analyse the metal properties.
<I've encountered this metallic shard, it seems it comes from the meteor itself>
So this shard is from the meteor? And you found it in the interior of a larva? I'll perform further analysis, but i can tell is not a material native from this planet.
For now, you should head to the maintenance Bay and fix the arcane reactor as soon as possible. Remember: DO NOT FIGHT THE M321
[Any players that die and run back in will spawn at the research Bay (N) at 2F until the arcane reactor is fixed]
In the room where we fought (B4) Appears one of those M321 patrols (P1). Players need to sneak out and get to the elevator undetected.
Players reach Maintenance Bay (N) and stabilize the reactor but there seems to be more problems ahead:
I've performed some analysis on the strange metal and on M321 behaviour patterns and i have bad news. The liquid metal seems to have some phase properties. It creates a thin layer around the M321 which allows to avoid any kind of aggression. Not only that, The M321 is a copycat: it has been observing you and learning. Since you were exterminating the life in the facility, the M321 started to do the same and consume their remains. So for security reasons i can't let anyone enter or exit the facility until the threat is dealt with. If you want to exit this place there's something that might work. If you activate the valve of magnetic dust in the sewers, if could interfere with the M321 ability to phase out. It's your only chance to leave this place. I'll unlock the door leading to the BF1
[Any players that die and run back in will spawn at the entrance as usual]
Entrance gets blocked by a door (4), players cannot walk out of the instance unless they teleport. door leading to Bf1 opens (3). Before the elevator there's a boss #6 (B6) a malfuncioning golem. Once killed the elevator activates.
Players reach to the underground floor (BF1). The conducts leading to the sewers are very dark with a few lights leading the way and plenty of patrols in stealth ready to ambush.
The valve is guarded by Boss #8 (B8)A crokolisk and 2 smaller basilisks. Once players activate it they can go back to 1F.
Once in 1F, players go back to mainenance room (N) and they activate the terminal once more.
Good job down there, i spread the magnetic dust across the facility, which dissolved most of the M321, the remaining ones will perish soon. Unfortunatelly, Uldum sustained heavy damage and the safest procedure is to shutdown all systems, seal the facility and send a distress signal to the titans so they can manually rebuild this place. Since you helped me fixing the arcane reactor and containing the M321, i'll give you some time before i seal Uldum once it for all.
entrance door (4) opens so we can escape.
Boss #9 appears, which is the final boss (B9), being the surviving and strongest M321. Since It's weakened because of the actions by the players in the sewers, the players can now damage the creatures and defeat them before they can escape the place before it gets sealed.
Bonus: Concept art of the M321, basically a greenish traslucid bog beast, some kind of fusion between loatheb and viscidius
I hope you enjoyed going trough Uldum as much as i've enjoyed creating all this concept art and plot. Have a great day!
