Did you know you can have your own Goblin Shredder in Turtle WoW? If no, this guide will tell you how to get it and what this Shredder can do. I think not many people know about this and how powerful it's in Alterac Valley so this topic is going to popularize existence of the Shredder.
What is Goblin Shredder?
Goblin Shredder is a unit that can be summoned via item obtained from specific quest in Alterac Valley. I will tell you how to get it later in the guide. This item is called Zinfizzlex's Portable Shredder Unit
https://database.turtle-wow.org/?item=17384. It allows you to summon and control Goblin Shredder which is powerful elite with very high health pool. It causes you to control the unit but at any time you can break the control and order your Shredder to guard specific spot. Note that you can summon the Shredder only inside Alterac Valley.
How to get the Zinfizzlex's Portable Shredder Unit?
In order to get your own Shredder, first of all your team in Alterac Valley must complete the steps below.
1. Kill Korrak the Bloodrager.
This is required for later escort.
2. Find Master Engineer Zinfizzlex.
He lays in Winterax Trolls' lands in front of cave behind the bridge of Korrak's spot.
3. Escort Master Engineer Zinfizzlex to your base.
Before you start, make sure that 2 big elite trolls who guard the bridge are either dead or despawned. They despawn after you secure the Snowfall Graveyard. You don't have to protect Zinfizzlex later because enemy players usually won't kill the goblin.
After you complete these steps, Master Engineer Zinfizzlex will stay in your base - next to the NPC who takes Armor Scraps in Horde or in Dun Baldar South Bunker in Alliance - and will offer you quest for Zinfizzlex's Portable Shredder Unit. You must bring him the following materials:
Thorium, Mithril and Iron Bars can be simply bought at the Auction House for approximately ~18g. Steamsaw can be taken from Stormpike lumber mill or if you are lucky, you might also find it at AH.
Turn in the reagents to Zinfizzlex and you will finally get your own Zinfizzlex's Portable Shredder Unit!
Some facts about Shredder
- Zinfizzlex's Portable Shredder Unit can be used only in Alterac Valley.
- Zinfizzlex's Portable Shredder Unit duration lasts for 72 hours played on your character - not real time. Quest for Zinfizzlex's Portable Shredder Unit is repeatable.
- Zinfizzlex's Portable Shredder Unit can be used multiple times, it isn't single use.
- Zinfizzlex's Portable Shredder Unit cooldown is 45 minutes and allows your Shredder to be active for 30 minutes.
- Shredder is mechanical unit and can't be healed through direct heals. However, it recovers to 100% HP when it resets its position and stop fighting - just like every NPC.
- Shredder has got 21 364 HP and its auto attacks deal 223 - 362 damage.
- Shredder has got 2 abilities - first is Cleave which hits up to 3 enemies with extra +30 damage. The second is Shredder Armor Melt - deals 740 to 861 Fire damage to all targets in a cone in front of the Shredder, additionaly causes enemy hit to lost 5% durability on their chest - https://database.turtle-wow.org/?spell=21559. Both abilities have a few seconds cooldown.
- When you use Zinfizzlex's Portable Shredder Unit, you are able to control your Shredder for 30 minutes, similar to priest's mind control. If you right click on control buff in your buffs list, the control will break and the Shredder will start guarding the place it was left in.
- After breaking control of the Shredder, it counts as your summoned unit. Thus, all players killed by your Shredder gives you Honor points and HKs.
- In theory, every player in Alterac Valley can have their own Shredder leading to some funny situations like 40 Shredders rushing to kill Drek'thar/Vanndar in 5 minutes from the start of the game.
Shredder is must-have for AV enjoyers
Though the Shredder isn't that popular, I would say it's a must-have for players who want to win AV games. Shredder has massive health pool and can be placed anywhere to guard strategic points like graveyards or towers. Shredder is excelent defender of graveyards against Rogues or Mages because unlike Commanders, Shredders can't be polymorphed or sapped. They are also superior defenders against many players in one small area due to their powerful AOE ability. Placing a Shredder to guard an area is very simple and once you do it, you can go anywhere knowing that the Shredder you summoned, will defend that place. Shredder can also be used to clear places that are heavily occupied by many NPCs of enemy faction giving you a safer passage. Even though Zinfizzlex's Portable Shredder Unit has 72 hours duration time, it will last for many days if you don't play on your character that much. For example, assuming that you play 4 hours a day on your character, Zinfizzlex's Portable Shredder Unit will last 18 days. Reagents for this item cost about 18g so we can assume Shredder investition will cost you 1g per day in that case.
