Some of these were already mentioned:
  • mend pet as a hot, remove channeling
  • more arrows per slot stack or a new bigger quiver (they could add this in emerald sanctum)
  • pet scaling with gear somehow and better avoidance
  • 3% increased damage to tracked target type (this would make those spells actually useful without breaking the game)
  • rework aspect of the wolf, its not great atm and it still bugs sometimes where you cant shoot even though you just swapped out of it plus its not enough to make hunter non shit when in melee, maybe make it a melee speed increase

Two dumbest things:
1. You cannot use traps in battle and you cannot place two traps of different types at the same time.
2. Dead zone of the shot.
Maybe someday the developers will come to their senses and make hunters more comfortable in the gameplay.

Don't allow traps to be placed during combat.
Don't reduce the minimum range.
Don't remove the quiver or ammo.

I agree that the super useless Arcane Shot needs a change
Stings could be more impactful
Beast Master and Survival Tree suffer from the mandatory 20 points in MM

Not being able to use traps in combat add some depth to the class and makes you learn proper FD usage, I think we're pretty strong as is what I wrote is minor improvements. Also I think removing quiver is a mistake (they're not gonna do it anyways) we dont have to carry much swapout items in raiding compared to a hybrid class. It would be nice if arrows stacked higher, during one of our first tries to clear Naxx in 1 day I ran out of arrows during our 3rd KT try, that being said you can have a few extra outside the quiver but I still think the quiver should be enough for any scenario and ideally even being able to carry two types of arrows (expensive for raids and cheap for pvp/farming etc)

Given short cast time to set up the trap in combat and cooldown same than FD would require more skill to use than pressing the silly macro.

Wyvern sting also could be an useful spell with longer duration in pve.

I always thought what Hunter needed the most in vanilla was a Disangage like button that pushes you far behind and gives you like 5 seconds of shoting while moving and a tiny sprint of 20% or something, It would be really good but then again I don't think anyone thinks Hunters are super op specially defensively.

I think the Specs are not specialized enough.

1) BM => Deep in the spec there should be talents that further buff your pets. I) 20% of your stats+armor into pet stats; II) Bestial disciple should be 15/30%; III) Reduce CD of bestial wrath about 1 minute; IV) A talent that when you crit you make your pet regain 20 energy.

BM is average on both melee and ranged, but when casters come closer to the deadzone, they might be countered by a strong pet. Offense is your Defense here.

2) MM really has no issues for me, it's how it has to be. You go further back and shoot people up, great spec that scales for your gear. No issues here.

3) SURV => This is a spec that should be focused around counter rogues and built around a "overpower" type of talents. I) Remove wyvern sting and replace it with Deep Wounds/similar skill, but this applies to ranged weapons too; II) Lightning Reflexes should add 1/2/3/4/5% DODGE; III) Improved Feing death should reduce Cooldown of the ability; IV) Counter Attack should take into account at least 50% of weapon damage, this talent has to be reworked.

--- MELEE STUFF ---

- Do NOT allow Mongoose to be triggered by anything other than a dodge (watch an IRL mongoose fight, the dodge is thematic) but increase its damage, probably
- Reintroduce Lacerate as a strong bleed. Perhaps allow it to stack, perhaps give it extra aggro.

--- RANGED STUFF ---

- Trueshot is too centralizing in PvE. I think it'd be better if it had a cooldown ; in turn, granting Arcane Shot and Serpent Sting some kind of other scaling than spell damage would be nice.
- This is related to Trueshot but currently there's no reason to use fast weapons, all they do is lower your Aimed Shot, Multi Shot and Trueshot damage, and give weaving a tighter window. This can be remedied in a variety of ways with on-hit effects, but would require careful balance (see my suggestion for Bestial Discipline bellow)

--- PET STUFF ---

- Spirit Bond is useless. It needs to do more ; pet scaling would be a possible avenue, which fits the idea of a "bond".
- More 1.0 attack speed pets (brokentooth camping sucks ass) ; and some incentive to use slow attack speed pets. Currently, the higher attack speed the better (more Frenzy procs, and casting pushback), there is no reason to use slow attacking pets. Perhaps a "normal damage + bonus" pet ability ?
- More useful pet families. Many of them, such as Spiders, Crabs, and Foreststriders, lack a pet family ability, and as such, a niche. There is no reason to use a pet of another family than Cat, Wolf, Owl, Carrion Bird, or Wind Serpent atm.
- Bestial Discipline is completely useless (increases focus regeneration by 10/20%, ie one additional Claw every minute-or-so). Some extra stuff on it would be nice ; perhaps "your autoshots generate X focus" ? This would make fast ranged weaps have a niche.

--- MISC ---

- Replace improved slaying with improved tracking, which would give the current bonuses but only to the currently tracked type
- Currently BM is "the solo levelling spec" : it has the best damage and survivability. Some early surv talents could remedy this

More music!

Not sure if possible but I'd add different pet skins based on level.
Like lvl 1-20 - child animal
lvl 20-40 - young animal
lvl 40-50 - adult animal
lvl 50 and plus - some kind of epic buff animal look

Survival raid viabilization as a melee support specialist:
1 -melee expose weakness tied with haste/crit (your melee crits applies a stack of expose weakness(flat a mount of DMG increase) that depletes when somebody of your party melee hits)

2.improved wolf aspect talent - your melee crits can proc a howl that increased your party melee Haste + can use ranged spell with throwing weapons + dead zone reduced.

Flavor talents -
Serrated blade like talent - flat Melee ArP + More damage on lacerate (add lacerate as a base spell)
Lacerate idea - low initial dmg melee AP bleed that increases with the missing health % of target.

Flavor class idea -
Rare beasts pets can now retain his unique spells/passives (needs balance)

I play a melee hunter.
Changes I'd love to see should be fairly simple to implement.

1. Unchain Rapid Shots. 40% speed increase to Ranged as well as Melee attacks.
2. Wolf Form requires 4% Haste group haste buff for group utility, likely linked to a talent deep in survival
3. Wolf form should allow placement of traps in combat locked behind a talent deep in Survival.
4. Lightning Reflexes talent should also provide either 1/2/3/4/5% haste, or 10/20/30/40/50% damage with off hand weapons.

I would suggest these changes to survival talent tree:

FIRST TALENT ROW:

Improved Slaying (0/3):
Increases all damage against Beast, Giants, Dragonkin and Humanoid targets by an additional 1/2/3%.

Superior Strikes (0/5):
Reduces the cooldown of your Raptor Strike and Mongoose Bitte 0.2/0.4/0.6/0.8/1 sec.

Deflection (0/5):
Increases your parry chance by 1/2/3/4/5%.

SECOND TALENT ROW:

Trap Mastery (0/3):
Increases The duration of freezing and frost trap by 10/20/30% and gives your traps a 8/16/25% chance to entrap the target preventing them to move for 5 sec.
Also decreases the chance enemies will resist trap effects by 5/10/15%.

Savage Strikes (0/2) (linked to Superior Strikes):
Increases the critical strike chance of Raptor Strike and Mongoose Bite by 10/20%.

Improved Wing Clip (0/5):
Gives your Wing Clip ability a 4/8/12/16/20% chance to immobilize the target for 5 sec.

THIRD TALENT ROW:

Survivalist (0/5):
Increases total health by 2/4/6/8/10%.

Deterrence (0/1):
When active increases your dodge and parry chance by 25% for 10 sec.

Counterattack (0/1) (linked to Deterrence):
A strike that becomes active after parrying an opponent’s attack. This attack deals 40 damage and immobilizes the target for 5 sec. Counterattack annot be blocked, dodged or parried.

FOURTH TALENT ROW:

Wyvern Sting (0/1):
A stinging shot that puts the target to sleep for 12 sec. Any damage will cancel the effect. When the target wakes up, the sting causes 300 nature damage over 12 sec. Only usable out of combat. Only one sting per hunter can be active on the target at a time.

Surefooted (0/5):
Increases hit chance by 1/2/3/4/5% and increases the chance movement impairing effects will be resisted by an additional 3/6/9/12/15%.

Improved feign death + Improved Disengange (0/2):
Reduces the chance your feign death ability will be resisted by 2/4%. Also Increases the amount of threat reduced by your disengange ability by 10/20%.

FIFTH TALENT ROW:

Killer Instinct (0/3):
Increases your critical strike chance with all attacks by 1/2/3%.

Bleeding Strikes (0/1) (linked to Killer Instinct):
Your critical melee strikes cause your target to bleed dealing 133 damage over 21 sec.

Melee Specialization (0/5):
Increases the damage you deal with melee weapons by 1/2/3/4/5%.

SIXTH TALENT ROW:

Lacerate (0/1):
A Instant strike that deals X damage increased by 45% of your attack power.

Lighting Reflexes (0/5):
Increases your agility by 3/6/9/12/15%.

SEVENTH TALENT ROW:

Windwalk (0/1) (linked to Lighting Reflexes):
Grants you and your party (lesser) invisibility and 40% increased movement speed for 5 seconds. Any attack while in invisibility will break the effect, but will increase you and your party critical strike chance by 10% for 20 sec.

Dispels movement impairing effects.

Invisibility effect will only apply when out of combat.

3 min cooldown.
------
Mixed some of the 1.1 talents and the actual ones, merged all trap talents into one (maybe add that fire traps can be used in combat).
- Lacerate bleeding effect will now work as warrior's deep wounds -> Bleeding Strikes.
- Lacerate will work as a pseudo warrior's bloodthirst. (I really think melee hunter needs a strike that doesn't depend of dodge/parry chance)
- Surefooted will now grant a max of 5% hit chance as the precision talent in 1.1.
- Merged Feign death actual talent and Disengange 1.1 talent into one.
- Added Melee Specialization talent from 1.1
- Final talent is now windwalk, I think the invisibility component should be applied only out of combat. Instead of guaranteed critical strike for just the hunter I think it could be better to add a critical chance increased buff to the hunter and his party to give this spec a bit support role (MM got Trueshot Aura). If the 20 sec 10% crit buff is too powerful maybe downgrade it to 5% idk.

I would like to see these:
- turtle bags or perhaps regular bags also serve as quiver
- melee hunter played like Jedi Knight / Sith Warrior from SWTOR, there seem to be a place for non WoW resource build/spend mechanic here that would bring more diversity in gameplay. No need to be powerful to not contend with other melee classes, just that it has something new to do while playing.

Trueshot made aimed shot mostly useless…
Pet types need some love; more diversity and skills… raptors need dash etc and more special rare pets would also make it more fun…

Traps in combat sounds good; just increase the cd to match fd

trueshot increase arrow consumption by about 50%, increasing arrow stacks from 200 to 300 would fix this issue.

Pets are not healed in raid, this is a fact, it's like that since 20y, most interface addons like PF UI don't have a way to show pets from the raid to healers, healers think it's useless to heal a pet who represent only 10/15% of hunter total damage, etc.

While having Mend pet as an instant would be amazing, it will make hunter too strong for soloing elites and bosses (we're already the best for that) and might be too strong for pvp too.

A good solution would be to add a skill to the game (vampirism, or blooddrinker) who allow pet to gain a percentage of pet damage done as life. it could be 20, 30, 40% for vampirism rank 1, 2, 3. This new ability should cost training points (5, 15, 25).

A pet deal from 25% of hunter damage at best for a fresh 60 BM hunter to less than 10% of hunter damage for a hunter geared with T3.

With thoses number, healing will not be very high, but still allow to overcome things like low damage cleave, volley of poison on the pet, etc but will still require the hunter to manage the pet properly, as he'll still die if you let him under a AOE like hellfire, etc.

This solution will only increase the time needed to kill a pet by few percent in pvp. It will not change pvp dynamic.

Pet scaling : a simple solution for Pet scaling would be that all items who increase AP while in bear or cat for ferals also increase Pet AP by the same amount and put increased AP for feral and hunters' pets on all the main hand agility axes for thoses who don't want to use 2H polearms but prefer 2 one-handed weapons.

For survival, remove the cooldown on Wyvern sting and make a new one shared with traps and limit the use when out of combat (this way survival will get a cc from range, and can FD+wyvern to CC).

this way, it will be useful despite the fact, you lose scatter shot with 31 pt in survival tree.

My wishlist:
1. Make unplayable builds at least somewhat relevant at raiding (like melee hunter).
2. Consider giving PVP builds a niche at PVE raiding with some 1 at a raid utility (like arms warrior)
3. Make an LFT-like tool for guild recruitments
4. Add some BOP epic items to later dungeons to encourage dungeon attendance even when raiding
5. This is controversial but I'd enable a summoning stone once you walk there to activate it. Each summoning stone should be activated individually.
6. Would consider adding cosmetics item for roleplayers and tmog fanatics to the donation shop.

They need to either add proper evasion or add a talent that increases damage done when you're without a pet. Pets right now are a joke in raiding even with 50% evasion, cant send it in on like half the engages cause it dies to cleave or boss mechanics.

I'd like to see aspects off the global cooldown. Mend pet not channeled like it is in later versions some attack power scaling for serpent sting and arcane shot and some scaling for pets based off the hunter such as stamina attack power resistances and armor I feel like changing the mend pet to an instant HOT would help alot for survivability or splash healing to the pet based on either the hunter getting healed or on damage dealt. I'd love to be able to stay beast master in raids

Complete Arcane Shot
Elemental shooting plan
Arcane Shot: deals 183 damage and also has the effect of Calming Shot, which is removed
Ice Shot: A mid-CD skill with a 30-second CD that deals 183 damage. If the target is frozen, it deals triple damage. If the target is under the effect of an ice trap, it immobilizes them for 3 seconds.
Flame Shot: A CD-free skill with low mana cost. It deals 50 points of fire damage and ignites the target, causing it to receive up to 50 additional points of fire damage (refer to the effect of the Ogre Mechanical Dragonling). The Flame Trap spell has been modified to receive a 10% spell bonus for solo play.
Natural Shot: Short CD skill, 15-20sCD? Similar to the weakened version of Chimera Shot, based on the spikes currently on the target. Instantly causes a poisonous snake sting with a single jump of damage, absorbs a single jump of magic from a viper sting, and increases the target's critical strike chance by 5% for 10 seconds.
Shadow Shot: Long CD skill, 1 minute cooldown. Causes 500 points of Shadow damage. Applies a curse effect to the target for 5 seconds. The curse effect causes 500 points of Shadow damage continuously. If the target dies during the curse, a skeleton soldier will be summoned to fight. (Refer to the Dragon Princess's Skeleton Book)

While survival hunter tree is not as good as MM for raid, it's in my opinion the best for pvp with all the cc it provide between improved wing clip / trap / counterattack. All of that to get out of mele range and keep damaging the target. Appart from priest i do think hunter can do it all with a 0/21/30 tree.

To me the only thing that would need a rework (if we ignore arcane shot of course xD) would be tracking. We need diferent colored dots to see aggressive / friendly / neutral / player on the minimap. Curently if i track humanoïd in SW there is no way to see if actual players are near you or not. (well sure i can read the names, but who can do that in stressfull situation ?)

I think we had that in wotlk or something ?

As for the heavy mana use of the hunter, i agree that we chug a lot of consumable in raid, but keep in mind that we also got the wonderfull tea with suggar in Twow that help a lot in mana pot rotation :D

If the hunter has mana and is familiar with some magical abilities, add the spell "Create Arcane Arrows" at level 60, with 20.0 damage like [Doomshot] or a little less if it is too much of a damage boost.

You can create a quest chain starting with killing the NPC Shadow Hunter Vosh'gajin in the LBRS to learn this ability.

Add the "Bloodthirsty" skill (Your pet attack have a % chance to increase its happiness) to the BM talent tree, it's not a big improvement, but it will make playing BM more convenient, because you are a Beast Mastery!

In the Survival skill tree, you can add a skill that improves traps: Allowing you to use traps in battle!
This will greatly change the gameplay of melee hunters, making their rotation wider! smiling_turtle_head

surival tree is useless on horde due to all the paladins and freedoms they provide. those roots ..well, dont work. Even if 1 freedom is cleansed, another is immideately applied

on alliance its a whole different story, a single frost trap can trap 3-4 targets
what hunters do need is more shots e.g explosive shot NPCs use

I've been Survival with strong preference for Melee combat for close to 7 months with gearing deep into AQ40. Equally geared melee damage with Wolf is not horrible with Wind Fury in group, but there's a terrible stigma to overcome, lack of raid utility, no cooldowns, and lack of cleave.

Consider giving deep Survival spec more focus on Aspect of the Wolf. Survival requires an identity other than just doing same thing as Marksman and some form of raid utility outside of simply doing perceivably sub-par damage.

My humble suggestions to make above more viable in order of importance:
1 - Consider a deep survival talent to give 5% haste to everyone in a party with Survival Hunter when Aspect of the Wolf is active. Or a lesser version of Quick Strikes for the party when the hunter procs the effect.
2 - Allow Rapid Fire to effect melee attack speed when Aspect of the Wolf is active
3 - Consider a talent (or modify existing talents) to allow traps in combat when Aspect of the Wolf is active. In same spirit, possibly consider talents that reduce the mana cost or further increase damage of traps.

Small wishlist item - allow Distracting Shot to be used in Aspect of the Wolf, so it can be used to bring enemies that book for ranged DPS back to the tank in melee.

I would make the survival hunter a semi melee-semi thrown weapon specialist with improved traps and utilities who can do great damage on encounters that requires a lot of movement, and beast masters as tanks with a strong pet with different abilities.

I wont throw in any game mechanic or similar change ideas. Simply Id like more pets added and skins for existing ones. For example: MAstiffs from Cataclysm(would be amazing) and on a goofier side Dragonflights DUCK hunter pets and more skins for the neglected tameable pets(crabs, turtles, crocks)
While on the subject of tameable pets if ur lvl60 and would like a manawyrm of hawkstrider pet, well too bad! Get ready to carefully, grind with ur lvl8 manawyrm pet western plaguelands or similar places for xp. :-( This one really needs fixing.

A lot of good stuff being suggested. My two cents:

- Make the talent Improved Revive Pet a single point for the full upgrade,

- Add a single point talent later in the BM tree that makes Growl an AoE.

Main effect of the second change is you'd probably see more turtle pets as they are great for soaking up damage but can't hold the attention of groups.
