New player with some questions.

Post by Slitenn » Fri Jul 04, 2025 3:20 pm

Hello everyone!

I decided to try out wow for the first time and have a few questions in general.
First one - is really simple, is there a huge difference between the classes for a newbie to learn? And the second question comes from the first one - should i for the begining sticjk to something simple, to not be nuacence to other players becauce of my not so great perfomance?
Thr third one - just general suggestions of how newbie should play, i guess?

Hey!

1. They play differently but none of them are really hard. As you spend time with the char, you'll get the tricks.
2. It's all good, just select a playstyle you prefer. If anything, if you wanna do dungeons, don't start as a tank. It needs some extra experience. Anything else is a fair game. Some people would look at performances during leveling but that's a minority. Most people regard that attitude unhealthy.
3. Hmm

In any case, join the Discord because each class has a channel there. You can ask anything from those guys.
I'd suggest trying out several classes at low level just to see how they feel. Sure, you'll barely have any abilities in the beginning but they have a generic feel from the beginning which helps choosing one.
I don't suggest selecting challenges, specially war mode if you are a total beginner. Can give a bad experience, specially if you don't know how to fight back.

Some ideas to help select a toon.

Mage: You roleplay Gandalf. Frost mage is a bit special: you are a Gandalf who slows down the others and stays out of their range.

Warlock: You wanna roleplay Gandalf but you are also very edgy and wanna have a demon. More micromanagement, maybe a bit less damage but a unique experience. If you ever wanna try-hard, don't select Alliance warlock.

Priest: You either roleplay Mother Theresa or roleplay her evil twin, yanking out madness and shadow damage. In short: choose a priest if you like healing or if you like the warlock edge vibes but don't wanna bother with a demon.

Druid: Kinda beginner-friendly. You can be anything. Wanna tank? Turn into a big bear. Wanna melee? You can be a cat. Wanna deal magic damage? You turn into a (???) and here ya go. Druid is super flexible but not the best in anything. Still, totally serviceable, but druids are all about flexibility and shapeshifting.

Shaman: Okay, imagine the indians on the prairie yanking lightning to eachother and using weird magic so they tomahawks hit bigger. This is the fantasy for it. A fun class but can be a bit mana intensive during leveling (you spend more time drinking instead of playing than the others). Also super-flexible, just like the druids. (But no combat shapeshifting.)

Paladin: Goodie-two-shoes knight decides to bless you so hard you go x.x. Can play any role except spellcaster from far away. Usually quite strong and interesting but a very frequent choice. If you pick a pala, chances are that you go through cities and find that every 2nd guy is a pala, too.

Warrior: Muscles go brr, no magic, just testosterone. Can tank or deal melee damage. Leveling can be a bit unfun, they are best at lategame, and they are kinda complex.

Rogue: Imagine the love child of John Wick, a stalker and Sub Zero. You sneak around, backstab, use poisons. Sounds a fun concept but the server kinda ignored this class. Can't really recommend them at the moment.

Hunter: You wanna play this game but you also wanna play Pokémon. Remember to feed your doggo.

1. It honestly depends on the class. If you don't speed through the leveling process you will be able to learn your classes new abilities. I also highly suggest seeking out help in the class channels in the twow discord. There are a lot of good information pinned in those channels.

2. and 3. Play whatever class you think you'll have the most fun. If you're worried about being the highest DPS, pick warrior. Aside from that, I have been here for quite some time and I enjoy playing on my druid, priest, hunter, and paladin. I have other alts I'm working on at the moment, but all of the classes I've played have their ups and downs. Play what you think you'll have the most fun. If you're not sure what you want to do e.g. tank, heal, dps...pick a hybrid like druid or paladin or shaman.

In closing, I cannot stress this enough. Take your time...have fun, and don't rush to 60. There is so much new leveling content on Turtle between new zones, custom quests, new dungeons, revamped old dungeons, etc. Its about the journey, not the destination.

here are some easy classes and specs for a first time wow player:

feral druid
beastmaster hunter
retribution paladin
frost mage (a bit more complex but has a lot of nifty tools like conjuring food/water and portals to capitals which make overall gameplay easier)

for group content always say you are new and if you never did that dungeon before. people will usually explain the trickier parts, but most leveling dungeons are simple and straight forward.

starting level 10 you get talents, press N to see the trees. every 2 levels you can go to the trainer to learn new skills.

1. The classes more or less feel like Vanilla, except slightly tweaked with a few more builds made viable.

2. That depends on what knowledge you have with Vanilla, you pick whatever you feel most comfortable with and enjoy playing, no need to force yourself into something just because this or that.

3. Just enjoy the game the way you feel best, there are some new features that could enhance your gameplay depending on how you view it.

You did not state in your OP if how much experience you have with WoW in general and with each expansion so it was difficult for me to answer your questions based on what little information you provided. I assumed you have tried other servers and other expansions before.

Turtle WoW is how most people describe it - Vanilla Plus - it's Vanilla, but with extra features. It's mostly enjoyed and appreciated by people who prefer Vanilla WoW, but are bored with the same old experience and want something more and this is where Turtle WoW shines - it provides regular updates that fix things or add new things in new, but lore-friendly manner so nothing feels out of place.

Except the cloud mounts, but we don't talk about that

Thank you all for the answer! They are very helpful to me. I was just worried that being a new player can be a disadvantage all on its own.
Regarding my previous expirience with WoW - it was somewhere around WoD, and it was very long time ago, and i think that the Turtle is very different since in is based on Vanila WoW.
But agaim thank you all for your answers - i will now try to play the game more or less peacefully.

Some are easier to play than others & some are easier/faster to level to 60 than others. But I don't think either of those two things should influence what class you pick.

should i for the begining sticjk to something simple, to not be nuacence to other players becauce of my not so great perfomance?
No, you should just pick whichever class seems the most interesting / fun to you and learn how to play it. You might later find out that you don't like how that class plays but the only way to figure that out is to try stuff.

I kind of like them, but will never use them. I also never saw an issue with them.
