Re: playable on Linux?
I added WoW.exe as a non-steam game and told steam to launch it with proton.
If you don't have steam you can use wine.

Re: playable on Linux?
Works really well through proton on Linux steam.
Be sure to download the Linux runtime boot soldier and proton 7
Also may have to change the .exe file path in the steam game manager.
If you need more detailed directions just ask me. I might be able to make a tutorial video.

Re: playable on Linux?
Launching many stuff through Steam and Proton seems more reliable and hassle-free than using Wine, Lutris or whatever the fuck. I personally use Windows 11, but I've tried moving to Linux a number of times only to return to Windows, but I believe Valve's Proton is currently the only thing that can make Linux more viable in the future.
Re: playable on Linux?
Sup could you help me, I down't really wanna use wine, I don't have sound and I don't really like it, how can I setup proton?
Re: playable on Linux?
It should be easy. Just add the wow.exe as a non-steam game. Enable force Proton and it should work.
If you need details on how to get a non-linux game running in steam on Linux let me know.
I should have some time soon to do a tutorial video start to finish of installing Linux and getting the game up and running.

Re: playable on Linux?
Hey guys, is there a walkthrough on how to install and run turtle wow on a linux system?
Re: playable on Linux?
I was going to make a How to install Turtle WoW video, but then I found out I may not be allowed to due to Turtle WoW unlicensed status.
Also unfortunately I tried to help two others get the game running on. Their Linux installs but couldn't resolve the issue. It should be a simple process of "add non-steam game" to Steam after installing Linux Run Runtimes and Proton.

Re: playable on Linux?
If you have a AMD or Intel graphics then use default Mesa graphics drivers are fine. But if you have NVIDIA you must install the proprietary NVIDIA drivers.Bruzzelbirne wrote: ↑Tue Dec 13, 2022 8:27 pmHey guys, is there a walkthrough on how to install and run turtle wow on a linux system?
Note: I also changed the name of the game in Steam to Turtle WoW and added background and thumbnail icon images.

I installed steam.
Installed all linux runtimes in steam (donno if necessary)
Installed proton 7.0
Added WoW.exe as a non steam game
Changed it to be in compatbility mode and use proton 7.0
Now the game launches but i get weird artifacts. but not always. Only when looking certain directions.
Im on fedora 35, probably using my intel gpu (i have also have an nvidia but never made any changes to anything so probably just being the intel by default then)

All I did was download the latest client and run Wow.exe with wine, works, though my FPS is ass not sure if related.

On NVIDIA you have to install the NVIDIA proprietary drivers. On Mint Linux Based on Ubuntu it's just a one button click to install them. There is a general way to install them on Linux with command line. I have one Linux computer that has a NVIDIA GTX 660 but it's being used at a private Minecraft server for my son and his friends right now.
I don't recommend using Wine. The performance is awful compared to Proton.
I just googled how to install NVIDIA drivers on Fedora

Re: playable on Linux?
I'm on Pop_OS 22.04 LTS and it worked out of box with Lutris. Just add game -> browse to executable, tell lutris where the turtle wow client folder is and hit OK. No tinkering required, took me all-in-all 2 minutes.
Only thing I've noticed is that the sitdown animation on logout is very choppy but other than that, runs perfect.

Re: playable on Linux?
Hello! Are you guys using vanilla fixes? I get like 300 fps in low populated areas but from time to time I get stutters to 0 fps for like 2-3 secs.
Using lutris-ge-proton 7.42 and NVIDIA 530.41. Not sure how to fix these stutters :(

Re: playable on Linux?
TurtleWoW runs on my Debian 11 System perfectly like many other games. Here a quick guideline:
export WINEPREFIX=/home/username/wineprefixes_online/TurtleWoW <-- or your preferred install path
export WINE=/opt/wine-stable/bin/wine <-- runs perfectly with current stable
winetricks vd=1920x1080 grabfullscreen=n <-- or insert your desktop size
rm $WINEPREFIX/dosdevices/z:
cd $WINEPREFIX/drive_c/
winetricks dxvk1103 <-- NO newer version! This is the last version with which TurtleWoW runs
cp <your TurtleWoW installer archive> .
unzip <turtlewow.zip>
rm -f <turtlewow.zip>
Start WoW with this little script or make a desktop shortcut (insert your preferred paths first):
#!/bin/dash
export WINEPREFIX="$HOME/data/wineprefixes_online/TurtleWoW"
cd "$WINEPREFIX/drive_c" || exit 1
rm -fr "$WINEPREFIX/drive_c/TurtleWoW/WDB"
wine C:\\windows\\command\\start.exe /Unix "$WINEPREFIX/dosdevices/c:/TurtleWoW/WoWFoV.exe"
My TurtleWoW runs perfectly with 60-280 fps under Debian.
