Native races to Azeroth

Post by Mrj36b » Thu Mar 11, 2021 5:23 pm

orcs came from draenor, dwarves, gnomes, and a race that would later become humans were all titan creations that were turned into their current forms by the curse of flesh, night elves were mutated by the well of eternity from trolls so that seems pretty unnatural, and obviously forsaken are just undead humans so this applies to them too.

so the only 2 races of the whole og 8 that are actually native to azeroth are tauren, and trolls, kinda weird to think about.

"At the heart of ancient Kalimdor lay the Well of Eternity, an enormous lake filled with powerful energies. The Well accelerated the cycles of growth and rebirth on the primordial continent, and soon sentient life forms arose from the wilds. The trolls were among the first and most prolific."
According to the wiki, life in general existed thanks to the well of eternity. So while night elves are trolls that were mutated by the well, the trolls themselves exist because of it. The tauren are descendants of Yongols (Not canon in vanilla so I don't think it's considered as fact for this server's lore)

Well we are looking at playable races. In vanilla wow only elves of the ones you listed are playable, and they evolved magically (not naturally) from trolls. Besides, according to the RPG, Sea Giants are titan creations so not naturally native to Azeroth either.

If you only include playable races, then yes Tauren and Trolls are the only naturally evolved races.
The titan forged are also native to Azeroth, just not natural.

Dang for the longest I thought Night Elves have been in Azeroth since the beginning, since they're old and whatever.

Dryads and Keepers of the Grove ironically predates Night elves.
Night elves descend from Dark trolls.

As for Goblins...The Goblins themselves have long forgotten these lost ages, so it remains to be seen when they appeared.

ummm no? orcs appeared in azeroth during the 'First War'. Humans were descendants of titans of northrend and others but their home has always been azeroth. And I do beleive night elves were the only race native to azeroth before they drove themselves back into hiding, along with the trolls that have always been at war with the night elves. Humans were just late bloomers in the WoW history but always native to azeroth. Humans, night elves ,troll and tauren are from Azeroth. Tauren and humans, per lore, came around the same era after the First War.

Yep, Trolls from the Well of Eternity and Taurens descended from the level 5 residents of Elwynn Forest.

If you're trying to identify the earliest common ancestor, trolls seem to be the earliest native living society. Also why many of the fan depictions of the titan Azeroth imagine her with Trollish features scared_turtle

Seems odd that you exclude Night Elves as being classified as a native of Azeroth because they evolved from Dark Trolls due to the arcane influence of the Well of Eternity. It could be pertinent to know that Tauren were originally Yaungol tribes that settled near the Well of Eternity which also influenced their evolution into the Tauren. turtle_tongue

If you're no longer excluding races that have evolved while being influenced by magic; the list of native playable races grows longer to include Goblins and all Elves (Night Elves, High Elves and eventually Blood Elves, Void Elves and Nightborne). Looking toward non-playable races, the list grows much longer... Gnolls, Murlocs, Jinyu, Naga, Maklura, Dragons, Elementals, Vulpera (gross, can't believe I said it), Sethrakk, the list goes on! Even the first Worgen were created by the influence of Goldrinn, the Wolf God upon Night Elves.

Yes, youre correct. Among the original eight playable races in World of Warcraft, the Tauren and Trolls are the only ones that are considered to be native to Azeroth. The Tauren are a race of nomadic, shamanistic tribes that have lived on the grassy plains of central Kalimdor for thousands of years, while the Trolls have a long and storied history on the continent, with powerful empires and kingdoms stretching back for millennia.

As you mentioned, the other playable races have origins that are either tied to other worlds (such as the Orcs and Draenor), or are the result of magical or scientific experimentation (such as the Dwarves, Gnomes, and Humans). The Night Elves, while technically mutated from the Trolls by exposure to the Well of Eternity, have still been a part of Azeroth's history for a very long time.

It's worth noting that there are other races on Azeroth that are native to the world, but are not playable as characters. For example, the Furbolgs, Centaurs, and Quilboar are all native to the continent of Kalimdor, and have their own unique cultures and histories.
