Foothpaths Theramore - Barrens & TH - SM

Post by Acepox » Sun Jul 06, 2025 1:46 am

Hi,

I strongly believe two very simple paths should be added as pictured, with torches and cleared of mobs (perhaps zone-level Alliance guards to maintain a degree of danger for Horde), between Theramore and Barrens (Northwatch Hold) to facilitate access to Ratchet, Stonetalon and Wailing Caverns for Alliance players, as well as between Thalassian Highlands and Scarlet Monastery to facilitate their access to the latter.

This should be relatively simple to implement. It could become a good opportunity to add Alliance quests to Northwatch Hold and a ferry connection to Anchor's edge.

Sorry for the non-Turtle composite map that doesn't have Turtle's Thalassian Highlands, but the concept is simple enough and the landmass is roughly the same.

Additionally, Alah'Thalas should have a second direct flightpath, to Aerie Peak.

The counterpart to this is that Horde have received several new transportation routes such as to the Badlands and from Mulgore to Stonetalon, yet Alliance has received very little. Horde-side, however, I would advocate for a path to the sea from Amani'Alor (Stonetalon), ending with a dock, and a small ferry to Zoram'gar (Ashenvale).

Not gonna lie I was thinking about this the other day and it's a great idea.

The only downside here would be with Alah'thalas (a starting zone) touching Tirisfal (another starting zone). I get that, in theory most players would not be interacting with this path to mess with other starting zone players, but typically interacting with the other faction "regularly" does not happen until like 20+.

I'd wonder what sort of implications that would have on the feel of the universe. Bumping into the other faction within 30 mins of gameplay would be kind of jarring.

Since players can already swim the coast and do this anyway, a better solution might be to not actually "connect" the zones, but give Scarlet Monestary a backdoor entrance with a path leading to it from Alah'thalas. Perhaps a side pathway to the jailhouse in Graveyard.

This would be similar to how Dire Maul has multiple backdoor entrances, as well as Ulduman and Maraudon.

Appreciate it.

Yes, that's a good consideration. Perhaps the Scarlet key could give access to a cave tunnel or something like that.

Or, as I mentioned for the Theramore - North Watch part, the presence of guards on either side would prevent the movement of lowbies without impeding that of actual dungeoneers.

Some High elf guards on the Alliance side (similar as at the Eastern - Plaguelands border (at the Last Runestone), and Scarlet guards along the path to SM, levels 29-31.

For sure I don't think it's undoable, I really like the idea of adding a gated back-entrance. Another use for the scarlet key.
