Be sure to un-tick the 'Adjust image brightness' option. I mean, your preference is up to you, but I did a side-by-side and the adjusted ones are really washed-out. I saw a periodic broadcast had been set up reminding people that they can /join Alliance or /join Horde. I did join Alliance on my main, and I know I'm not the only person on it, though I've yet to see anyone speak in it. I like the joined World chat, since there's no longer something said in World ...

If this is right, then it seems the drop rate from mining may have just been much lower in vanilla. Or the server isn't implementing separate 'tin vein' objects for the cave and is using the generic ones. Note that the ore is not a quest item, so this supposed 2% is global.
